Thanks for posting and clarifying. We’ll leave this open for further voting and comments.
Splitwise already detects words like "pizza" or "bar" to set a category, but it doesn't know location specifics. Thus would it be great if I were able to set my own keywords like "Shop XYZ" > groceries or "McMurderBuger" > Dining out.50 votes
Great idea! To be honest, it’s a lot of extra work to create a custom user-by-user system (maybe a good idea for the Pro version?), so that’s not likely in the near term. But if you have suggestions for words to add, please feel to email us at email@example.com or add them to the comments. We also review the system periodically and add new “magic” words when we think of ones to add.
Allow pasting of clipboard image directly , for receipts in Splitwise bill instead of only allowing us to upload from PC. Many times, the bill receipts will be present in Gmail or Google photos. We could take a screenshot of that receipt by pasting it to the clipboard. If Splitwise provides a feature to directly paste the clipboard's image for bill receipts, instead of having to download that image or PDF and upload it, it'd be great.3 votes
Thanks for the suggestion – I can see how this would be useful in some cases when copying existing photos on a desktop or laptop.
O app é ótimo.
Falta a opção de convidar novos usuários por SMS.
A opção de ter que colocar o e-mail pode inviabilizar ou ser muito burocrática pra quem recebe.4 votes
Sorry for the inconvenience! Currently we support SMS in the USA, and we hope to add SMS for other countries in the future.
After a weekend getaway we returned some unused supplies that had already been entered on Splitwise. We split costs using shares (some people were paying for them and their partner's share) and thought we could add reimbursements in a similar fashion. Unfortunately it appears reimbursements may only be shared evenly.
We worked around this by editing the original expense which wasn't as smooth as I've come to expect from Splitwise.74 votes
Thanks for the idea – the workaround you chose makes sense, and sorry / thanks for your patience. We really appreciate your feedback.
I’m going to leave this suggestion as under review to see how many other people are having the issue. Reimbursements are a tricky feature that we are happy to support, but adding additional functionality to them it is not currently a high priority since they are not very commonly used. As a result, I’m sorry I can’t promise a specific place in the roadmap for your suggestion.
Can ask users to link cards and bank accounts in order to show transactions in split wise so user can select transactions instead of having to do manual entry. Plaid makes a great API (demo.plaid.com) for this: firstname.lastname@example.org votes
This is something we’ve considered and may make in the future.
NEVER EVER allow accounts to be created without properly linking PayPal or Venmo to both PAY and RECEIVE PAYMENTS
Splitwise currently allows different emails for Splitwise and Venmo accounts without linking them. The result is that Splitwise fails to connect to an account for you to RECEIVE payments but it takes them from you.
Splitwise should NEVER EVER allow accounts to be created that haven't properly been linked for BOTH paying AND receiving payments.
This is Splitwise's fault for not having a verification system. Splitwise needs to fix this problem, otherwise people will pay you and it will just sit around.29 votes
Sorry for the trouble! We’d definitely like to add more explicit confirmation for PayPal/Venmo payments in the future, and we’ve been working on the ability for a Splitwise user to have multiple email addresses for their account (e.g. one for PayPal, one for Venmo, etc). Hopefully we can make more improvements in this area this year.
I'm a Pro subscriber and the search is nice, but it only seems to look in the transaction description. I'd also like to be able to search by amount.14 votes
This would be a great feature to eventually add to Splitwise Pro. We can’t make any promises but we will see if it can be added to the roadmap.
You could have more payment connectors, like apple pay, android pay, debit card. Also, keep an eye for international platforms, I'm an international user and I'd love to use my local payment systems (There's a startup here in Brazil called PicPay, it's a venmo copycat). That would drive adoption A LOT!21 votes
We’re definitely interested in adding more payment options! Unfortunately, some of the more well-known options (Apple Pay, Android Pay) don’t currently allow third-party apps to send person-to-person payments, so we haven’t been able to add them yet, but we’re hopeful that those companies will open up their APIs in the future. And non-US payment providers are definitely on our to-do list too! :)
Currently we have Bar Chart. I would be better if we have Pie Chart Over there. It will be convenient for Viewing also.4 votes
I often create groups with members who do not have an account and enter their expenses myself. My workflow right now is to print the overview and send a PDF in the end. That PDF is a bit overwhelming.
Having a link that allows to view all the things in a group would be great. That link could also be used as an invitation link.19 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this would be useful for groups with “dummy” members (though we do generally encourage people to include email addresses when adding other group members, so that those other people can simply log in to Splitwise themselves). A view-only mode isn’t on our roadmap yet, but I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for the future.
It sucks when you have a lot of ppl on splitwise and you have scrol through it when you are looking for the name of the person you are "settling up" with(by clicking the settle up button on the dashboard)
So having a search text box on top would be great7 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! For now, you could try using the “filtering” search field in the left sidebar – just type in the name of the person you want to settle with, then click their name in the left sidebar, and then click the “Settle up” button as usual. Splitwise will automatically fill in that person as the person you’re settling up with.
Sometimes, in a large group, 2 or 3 people pay for everybody else, so it'd be cool if in the "Who paid" you could also specify a "split" option.14 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements for the future. For now, of course, you can always use the “Paid by multiple people” option and manually enter an amount for each person who paid – though I realize that’s not super convenient if you’re just trying to split the total across 2 or 3 people :)
US way 1,234.56 = 1.234,56 (german way).
Right now I can not enter "4,56 Euro" as an amount43 votes
Yup, this is something we hope to get to in the medium term future. Sorry for any inconvenience caused in the meanwhile. Best, Zoe
When a bill is added, only the date and price of the bill is shown. I suggest you also add the time of the bill.. like when the person is adding the bill on Spiltwise (by App or by PC).6 votes
We do currently track time, but it’s not something we show in the interface.
I would to have an option to repeat a payment for a certain number of times.
For instance, repeat $10 for 5 months.
As of now, I am not able to restrict the number of installments to repeat23 votes
Interesting idea, thanks for the suggestion!
I’m leaving your idea as “under review” to see if others have the same request. Our repeating expenses system could definitely be improved in several ways, but to be honest, doing so isn’t on the medium term roadmap at the moment.
Make it straight channel to give feedback about deleting an account. I had an older account, which I noticed after signing in with a new email. So I deleted the new account in order to use the previous account with better email-address. The delete page asked to shortly tell the reason for deleting, but the link gave just the support page. So, I suggest you will make shorter route to tell, why deleting the account :)3 votes
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll pass it on! We definitely want to make it as easy as possible to send us feedback :)
For example, imagine I go to a restaurant called "Alice and Bob".
1st time I add an expense, I type "Alice and Bob" in the Description and select "Dining out" as category.
2nd time, I type "Alice and Bob" the app may select "Dining out" by itself.
Splitwise is still awesome without this feature, but it would definitely be something nice to have!70 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! Yep, this definitely makes sense – right now, we auto-detect certain words like “dinner”, but we don’t do any intelligent matching based on your past expenses. I’m not sure how technically involved this would be, but I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for the future :)
hello :) I think it could be nice if you could summarize your expenses by type (e.g. liquors or entertrainment) :)4 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! We have a very basic version of this on our website right now (under “Trends” in the right sidebar), as well as on iPad. Hopefully it’s something we can bring to more devices in the future!
You venmo integration is great, but you currently cannot request money and create a Venmo charge. This would help remind people to settle debts. You've already integrated with the Venmo API, and according to their documentation, all you need to do is put a negative amount in the request to create a charge -- this should be easy (see: https://developer.venmo.com/docs/payments).28 votes
Great idea, and thanks for the citation. We’re definitely interested in improving our Venmo integration in time, and this would be a good way to do so.
