It would be great for teams (corporate or otherwise) to use a slack integration to keep track of SplitWise data. Slack is one of the top most platforms where most of us are always on - any plans to get that integration done?33 votes
We use Slack too and would like to get this feature added. With our small dev team it might have to wait for a hack day or break in the schedule.
Can ask users to link cards and bank accounts in order to show transactions in split wise so user can select transactions instead of having to do manual entry. Plaid makes a great API (demo.plaid.com) for this: firstname.lastname@example.org votes
This is something we’ve considered and may make in the future.
I have add some bill for the past that should be recurring.
If I add now (11-Dec.-2014) a monthly bill starting from 1st September it will not add the monthly payment off October, November and December, but says nex bill on January.
Please add the ability to create a full set of recurring bill starting from a back date.33 votes
Our recurring bill feature is probably one of the oldest pieces of code in the Splitwise service at this point. We’ve been meaning to update it for a while, but we’re a pretty small company, so it’s rare we find to the time to work on something that mostly works right. This is one of the broken pieces of recurring bills we’d like to fix when we can find the resources.
Whenever I add a friend that owes me money, you guys send them email and (worse) don't make it clear that you are going to do so. So I've gotten an email or two from friends who are pissed I signed them up for something. Because I respect my friends privacy, this makes Splitwise FAR less useful to me.
When adding a new friend who doesn't use Splitwise, there should be a 'do not email this person' option.
Apps that insist on bothering your friends are bad. You guys are good. Please don't be bad. :)
Sorry for the confusion! We try to make it clear any time you add someone that you are in fact sending them an invite/receipt – if there’s a particular place where we missed that or did it poorly, let us know at email@example.com.
We’re definitely considering making emails optional, but it’s a complicated decision, both for business and user experience reasons. For now, it is possible to create groups where not all members have email addresses, which may help you out. Apologies for the trouble!
When you export your data to Excel there should be an additional column indicating who paid for each expense.32 votes
Our next update to the Excel feature is to bring it to mobile. Not sure when we’ll have the bandwidth to consider functionality on the whole. Sorry for any inconvenience! Zoe
We typically make groups for a getaway weekend with lots of people contributing lots of items. We would like the ability to say after x days this group is locked and all bills should be submitted before this date. Ideally, it would send a warning one day before the group is locked and then only payments are allowed to be entered into the group after it is locked.32 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! We’re generally against features that can “lock” transactions and prevent other people from editing them, but I can definitely see how this would be useful. I’ll mention this at our next design meeting and add it to our list of possible ideas for future updates.
Chase quickpay is a quick method of payment that is offered by Chase bank and something I use with a lot of people. Would be great to see it added to the payment options instead of just paypal and Venmo. Thanks! Loving Splitwise! Thanks for making life as a student easier between my friends and I - no more sending and forgetting Excel spreadsheets!31 votes
Thanks for your suggestion and for your kind words about Splitwise.
We will considering adding Chase Quickpay integration if the idea gets popular amongst our user base, and if Chase begins providing a free API for Quickpay (that’s the tech thing we’d need to do the integration).
In the meanwhile, sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for using Splitwise!
the ability to select a bill and settle up at that point, so settle up all bills before this (and perhaps insert that payment into the timeline there)
so if I had 3 bills and I owed $80
April Gas : $20
march Food: $40
March Gas $20
I could select "March Food" and settle up all my previous payments (march food and gas) and after it would look like this
you Owe $20
April Gas : $20
Rich paid $60
march Food: $40
March Gas $20
We’re not currently planning to add something like this as we believe it would not be used by many users and would therefore unnecessarily complicate the interface. If this idea gets a lot of votes, we’ll reconsider.
You should make it so that AFTER having amounts divided among all of the various parties, that you can combine people into a group.
This is useful when a couple is involved. For example, a group trip where there's 1 couple and 2 single people.
It's easier to have them separate to start, because they each have stayed at the hotel or eaten the meals as individuals. But then paying, it is easier to have them as 1 entity.30 votes
Interesting – I can definitely see why this would be useful. I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for the future.
The new service from paypal offers new possibilities to transfer money more easily to freinds and family with a link like https://www.paypal.me/username/25.43
It makes sense to include the possibility to settle up via this link or to generate the link as such for further sharing. (by adding the paypal.me-username to the splitwise-account)29 votes
Interesting. I haven’t seen this yet. It’s unlikely we’ll be able to support this as our control over how the PayPal code works is limited, but it’s definitely worth looking into.
I couldn't find Whiteboard option in Android App.
It it is there, kindly guide me to it.29 votes
Sorry for the trouble! You’re right, the whiteboard isn’t in our mobile apps yet, but we’re hope to add it and/or other new messaging features to our apps in the future. In the meantime, apologies for the inconvenience!
US way 1,234.56 = 1.234,56 (german way).
Right now I can not enter "4,56 Euro" as an amount29 votes
Yup, this is something we hope to get to in the medium term future. Sorry for any inconvenience caused in the meanwhile. Best, Zoe
Debt simplification is a very good idea, but it lacks one most important thing. The old and new balances for each participant with the friends they simplified with. This is causing a lot of confusion, as to who was owing how much before the debt was simplified. So, it is urgently required if you could add the details about how much each person paid and how much each person gets back after the debt simplification.28 votes
We do need to update the information shown to users so they can make sure the shuffle worked correctly.
When I see printable summary for my group apartment, I should be able to know that in a current month , how much I have spent in total presently it only show how much you owe etc. and also category wise like entertainment , groceries other.
This could help me to record my expenses and manage them in a better way.28 votes
You should be able to get some of this information already from our website. If you click the “Trends” button at the top of the right-hand sidebar, then click “View more charts” at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar, you’ll get a chart with details about your total spending and your breakdown by category.
We may bring some of that info into the printable summary in the future, but for now, I hope that helps!
When entering a new bill (particularly at a restaurant, but there are many scenarios), once all of the names have been entered into "With you and", figure out who owes the most money among the participants and suggest that person as the "Paid by".27 votes
Neat idea, thanks. I had never imagined a scenario where people started to add a bill to Splitwise that hadn’t already been paid for. Will keep in mind. Thanks, Zoe
If I want to enter a transaction, I want to do this fast, so spent the least possible amount of time on searching and including the right person. The Android app shows all my phonebook contacts, which is not convienient if I just quickly want to add a transaction.
Maybe a separate "import phonebook contacts" button can be made available26 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this would be useful – a lot of people do use the auto-loaded contacts, but I can imagine that being not helpful for some people.
When adding a bill which was paid by multiple people you should be able to select an option "Each person paid an equal share" in addition to the available option "Each person paid for their own share".
This is especially useful for couples having a shared bank account / credit card or for shared bills where everyone just chipped in the same amount of money (but one still wants to split the items afterwards).26 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this’d be useful for certain common types of bills, so I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for the future :)
I would like to send a custom message to specific members of a Group directly from Splitwise. I've tried using the whiteboard function but that doesn't seem to work very well.25 votes
Are you aware of the ability to send reminders, or comment on specific expenses? You can send an email to a fellow group member by clicking on their name in the right sidebar, then clicking the “Send reminder” button. You can leave comments on specific expenses by clicking the expense, then entering a comment in the comment box – the other people involved in the bill should get an email about your comment. I hope that helps!
To have a monthly expense tab, that shows monthly expenses till now and past month expenses like you send in every month at mail. It will also help the person to keep track of his expenses in different categories.25 votes
We’re working on some features like this now! In the meantime, you may want to check out the printable summary page for groups on our website (go to a group, then click “view printable summary” at the top of each month’s expenses), as well as the trends view for groups on our website (go to a group, then click the “Trends” button at the top of the right sidebar, then click “View full details” at the bottom of the right sidebar). Hope that helps!
a calendar feature that helps a home group keep track of who gets paid when, and when bills are due. To help figure out who will actually pay the bill, and then be owed by the rest of the group.24 votes
Thanks Randy! Have you tried using the ‘recurring bill’ feature? Interested to know whether that meets this need, or whether you think we need a calendar function on top of it. Thanks for using Splitwise and writing in!
