Thanks for the suggestion! I’m not sure this is something we’ll add in the near future but I’ll leave it open for further voting.
I un-deleted an expense yesterday but was a bit confused when I saw the button still appearing in the activity page. Maybe removing the button (I totally understand the logic for keeping the deletion activity in tact) would be great and not so confusing :)1 vote
Hey Estelito – that definitely makes sense! I’ll add this to our list of to-dos for the web app. (I believe our iPhone and Android apps already work this way, so hopefully we can catch up the web app soon.)
When purchasing online or through apps, for Food, Groceries or any other ecommerce or shopping apps, directly provide a sdk for the apps to split the amount and easy access for the people splitting. Many a times people forget that they had paid for a group treat and then when re adding they have to check through bank statements or orders to know the exact amount. Splitting then and there would make it easier.1 vote
Thanks for the suggestion! We’ve considered doing something like this, I’ll leave this open for further voting for now. Thanks again!
Hire servers in or near Asia so that it is easier for the app to push/pull transactions. In China we had lots of trouble syncing bills.
The internet that we had was 'ok'. It could play youtube videos at 144p, so transaction syncing should not be a problem then right?
Anyway maybe increase the time-out for http requests.
All the best!1 vote
Thanks for letting us know. Unfortunately, neither of these are simple things due to how our infrastructure currently works. China is also a challenging environment because of how it connects to the internet for the rest of the world. Hopefully we’ll be able to improve this in the future.
It would be cool if I could create a custom filter for totaling expenses in a group. Use case: My housemate never names his grocery runs anything sane (i.e. something with 'groceries' in it so that your metadata tracker picks up on the category). I would like to create a glob/regex filter to add in all expenses with "woodman" in the title to grocery category.
Unless your auto-categorization is perfect or this filter feature is added, the usefulness of pro-charts is limited.
Pro looks promising so far, thought. Thanks!1 vote
Thanks for the suggestion Julian, and for upgrading to Pro.
I can definitely see how this would be useful for some folks. Not sure if/when it’ll make it onto the road map (we’re 4 engineers), so for now let me suggest that your roommate manually categorize all the groceries expenses they don’t name something ‘common’.
This is a personal finance tool. Would be great to synch to this application and pull in custom categories1 vote
Thanks for the suggestion!
I’ll leave this under review to see if others are interested in this as well.
This may sound a bit odd, but it's trivial to enable in xcode, I think.
I often use Splitwise on my ipad. Since you only have an iphone app, that's what I use.
I often prop up my ipad with the charging port facing up in portrait mode so I can charge it without the cable interfering. This doesn't work right with Splitwise, which will not run upside down like other ipad apps will.
I believe this is just a check box in xCode.1 vote
Hmm…our iOS guy thinks this might be a bit complicated because of some of the custom drawing we do, but we’ll add it to the list of possible future improvements :)
Thanks for the clear suggestion. Makes sense to me, but also probably slow for large accounts.
Leaving open / under review to see how many other folks want to vote for it.
Thanks for the suggestion and apologies for any inconvenience!
I’ll leave this open for further voting.
Hope that makes sense! Let us know if you have more questions.
In both the web & mobile apps, it would be great if you had a little 'I' in a circle that we could click for more info about a specific feature--specifically I was and still am very confused as to the differences between a Memo, Note, and Comment. Would be helpful if there was a short sentence or two explaining what each feature was for. Thanks for a great app!1 vote
Sorry for the confusion! Yep, I agree that all those differences are pretty hard to understand. Hopefully it’s something we can clean up in the future. In brief:
Memo: Basically the same as the “Description” field on a normal expense. When there’s enough room, we try to display this text right in the list of expenses (e.g. “Ryan paid Jon $20 for ‘Groceries’”)
Notes: When adding an expense or a payment, the notes field lets you include extra information about that transaction. (Once upon a time, we didn’t have any ability to add comments at all, and this was the only way to include extra information about a transaction. Now that Splitwise supports comments as well, I think we may phase out the Notes field at some point.)
Comments: This allows anyone involved in an expense to add more information. An expense can have many comments.
Why not show the little person icon next to the friends name with a color? Red if you owe them, Green if they owe you? Sometimes you want so see who owe you money individually and I have to go through each contact to see if they owe me or not.1 vote
We actually tested this at one point and thought that it ended up looking too distracting, but it might be worth reconsidering. I’ll pass on a note about this. In the meantime, you can always get a list of everyone who you have a balance with from the Dashboard screen. Apologies for any inconvenience!
It would be nice to have the option to show the money owed in current day. As an example, I have a 1:1 group and there are some upcoming bills, and it only shows up the total owed money including those bills. I want to have the possibility to see how much do I owe (or get back) today, including only the bills already paid.1 vote
Interesting! I’ll pass on this suggestion and see what the team thinks – it could be useful, but we’d also want to make sure it doesn’t confuse people by accident.
currently the All expenses UI only shows the list of expenses but doesn't show to whom I borrowed/lent. To know this I need to open each expense.1 vote
Unfortunately, there’s not usually enough room on the screen to do a good job explaining who you borrowed/lent with in that list. When you’re in a group or friendship, we do break down your lending in that group/friend. I’m not sure how we would put this together in a clean way.
If you enter a % split, it's stored as $ values and throws an error when you subsequently reduce the total cost.
Steps to reproduce:
-add a bill of > $1
-set it to a percentage split
-confirm/accept the bill
-edit the bill and attempt to lower the price to $1
-observe that an error dialog appears complaining that the new price is less than your share of the bill0 votes
We are aware of this issue, and it is on our TODO list for the near future.
Give me a push notif if my friend is looking at the SW app so I can message them about any outstanding bills I need them to add to the ledger.0 votes
We will probably implement messaging in the future, which would solve this. Not sure whether we’ll ever give users notifs when their friends log in — seems a little invasive?
It would be good have the option of paying directly to PayPal Money Pool from Splitwise. This way when a Money Pool is created in PayPal and an invoice in Splitwise is created to contribute towards Money Pool, users will be able to settle it through Splitwise and it will be a smooth settlement.0 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I’m not sure this is something we’re going to add but I’ll leave it open for further voting for now.
When you scan a receipt you may have gone to a store and bought multiple categories of things, like groceries and household goods. You should be able to indicate which items on a receipt are which category.0 votes
Interesting idea! I’ll leave this under review for now.
We are making big changes to our ‘reoccurring bill’ infrastructure / interface over the next year. This seems like something we could potentially include. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ll definitely consider this the next time we update our list of categories.
