Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how that would be useful, and we’d definitely like to provide better flexibility in our charts and graphs in the future.

Re: attaching a picture, sorry for the trouble! We use UserVoice for our support emails and forums, and unfortunately I don’t think they support attaching files to forum posts yet. Hopefully in the future!

Currently, on the desktop version, I can view charts for all expenses (combined chart for all groups) but I don’t get to select which groups I would like to see.

I would like to be able to view a combined chart of only the groups that I select. Preferably if this can be accessed on the mobile version. If not, the desktop version will do too.

    Use case:
I have a group I created with my family and also one I created for my own expenses. I would like to see my total expenses (my share) for these 2 groups combined.

    1. Send a monthly consolidated excel (from all groups) of my expenses by category to my email. Or consolidate the excel as such so that I can extract it myself.

I don’t need to know the cash in and out.
I’m sure there is a way to extract this information using a smart bot / automation.

    OR

    2. Link up with another expense tracking app so you don’t have to do the ground work since you are already using APIs.

Spending 2 app is very detailed in terms of tracking amounts and categories.

    OR

    3. The easiest, maybe. When I go to the charts, give an option to click on the category which will show a consolidated breakdown of my expenses.

Since I have already keyed in the items, there shouldn’t be a problem to retrieve and consolidate this data.

Thanks for the suggestion! Yep, this definitely makes sense – right now, we auto-detect certain words like “dinner”, but we don’t do any intelligent matching based on your past expenses. I’m not sure how technically involved this would be, but I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for the future :)

We aren’t planing to add support for custom categories in the near future. We’re considering better ways to allow people to sort expenses into categories other than the ones we’ve provided. In the meantime, if there are particular important categories you feel are missing, feel free to email us with a suggestion at support@splitwise.com.

We just added a very basic calculator function to our web app, so you can now use basic mathematical operations when entering a cost (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). We hope to add similar features to our mobile apps at some point in the future!

We’d love to make Splitwise better for tracking personal expenses (though we’re mostly focused on splitting for the time being). For now, your best bet is probably to make a new group for personal expenses, with yourself as the only member.

We agree that managing recurring bills could be better. Currently, the way to edit recurring bills is to change the most recent copy and that will change ones that follow. It will not affect the past expenses.
We’re considering how to improve this, and will leave this under review for now.
