Sorry for the trouble! The best way to do this right now is to set up the bill so that everyone pays for their own share. Just tap on the button that says who paid, change the payer to “Multiple payers”, and then enter each person’s share, and the resulting bill should have no effect on your overall balances.

My housemates and I love Splitwise for keeping track who owes what. But we’d also like to be able to add items as a straightforward checklist.

Here’s what I mean: Each person is assigned to a certain bill (electric, gas, internet) and is responsible for informing the group when a bill is due and how much each person needs to pay.

But the catch is, we don’t pay each other. Instead each person goes into a shared utility account and separately pays their portion. Since no money actually changes hands among us, the “owes” feature is confusing and forces us to settle up for no reason.

It would be great if we could just assign a task with checkboxes to indicate completion among the group (eg, “paid”).

    Something like this:

PERSON 1 added Electric Bill as due 1/31 with a balance of $150.

    Person 1 - $50 [ ] “Paid”
    Person 2 - $50 [ ] “Not yet paid”
    Person 3 - $50 [ ] “Not yet paid”

... where checking the boxes has no effect on the overall balances owed. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!
