Your comments make sense – you’re definitely not the only person to be confused or frustrated when a friend “accidentally” turns simplify debts on or off. We’re thinking about ways to solve that problem, as well as ways to “close” or permanently settle a group, and I’ll bring up the possibility of a “group admin” again next time we talk about this. in my opinion it's almost stupid not having this option by default. we're dealing with money here guys!
Splitwise has some basic support for this now, depending on what you’re looking for. We now support multiple email addresses for a single account, so you can more easily share one account with multiple people.
However, we won’t automatically adjust how much you should owe as a “couple”. For example, if “Bob” adds an expense with “Sue and John’s Couple Account”, then the bill will be split 50/50 between those two Splitwise accounts. I can definitely see how it would be useful to automatically make Sue and John pay for 2 shares, but we’re unlikely to add that feature in the near future. For now, you can still work around this by manually using the “Split by shares” option when adding a bill, and assigning 2 shares to the relevant account.
Very useful for couples in group transactions were one pays the others bills, but you still want to include both to even out the split total
I’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, you may be able to use “Export as spreadsheet” to accomplish some of this. You can export a spreadsheet from our website by going to a group or friend, then clicking the settings icon in the upper right and choosing “Export”. Hope that helps!
Large group transactions get really messy very quickly so a simple option to filter all my transactions with a specific person would be very useful.
