Group receives external money
I am in a 3-people group and we think it would be useful to have an option "receive money". Because when we receive money back from gaz/electricity bill, car sharing... it is not handy.

We support this on the web right now (splitwise.com). The person who received the money should enter the expense. They should enter a negative sign (-) before the amount. Then click ‘save’. Cheers!

As this is closed as finished, but it isn't usable on the mobile app, I re-created the topic here: http://feedback.splitwise.com/forums/162446-general/suggestions/41324803-group-receives-external-money
Please upvote, as I totally agree with you, without this feature the app is unusable on mobile

does it work on mobile app as well?

The feature is not handled properly from UI perspective, the negative sign is gone and u can't easily see it in history

Adding a negative sign (-) before the amount doesn't work to me neither. the negative sign disappear after I leave the field.

whenever I try to put the negative sign it disappears when I try to save. so it appears as expenses

This should be a no brainer. Instead of paying on behalf of others, Ive received funds on behalf of others in the group.
It’s not rocket science.

Although this is marked as complete, I think the implementation on this is the weakest aspect of Splitwise
1) Making it dependent on on adding a negative number (as oppose to explicitly logging it as income) feels like a hack rather than a complete solution and makes it easier to make an error.
2) Looking back at my previous entries that have been recorded in this way, its not obvious that they reflect income to the group. The negative number is not retained after the entry is made and the entry does not use the terms income or received. It says one of the parties paid for something, which is confusing to everyone involved, but particularly to those who did not record the entry.
Please revisit and improve this, in particular the way such entries are described/recorded.

At the end of our trip we brought back all the empty bottles and one friend took the money. A function where you could add earnings (which need to be split) and not only payments would be great!

As an example: I use the app with my two office partners, we share rent and other common bills/expenses. We use the app to keep track of these expenses and balance it among us at the end of the month. But there is one common source of income that we use to cover the office’s expenses, and it would be much easier for our financial administration if we could register incoming values as well. Especially because right now, surprising our expectations, we are actually profiting as a group, so we are having a spare value in the office’s finances and can’t find a way to consider that within the app.

I want to explain it by example. A gave 500rs, B gave 700rs, C gave 400rs. C collected all money. In their trip, expenses of A,B,C are 200rs, 850rs & 300rs. Hence, 250rs is balance at the end in total. Everyone should get Balance money back (money of individual's money- individual's expenses). Please explore this kind of situation.

We traveled together and sold our tent at the end of the journey but there is no possibility to set this on the list and split this income through the group members.
