The add Bill window is irritatingly small. It sucks to see a whole big screen but very little space to work with. This is especially problematic with itemized bills, where a horizontal toolbar pops up while adding a bill on a 30 inch screen! Please make the add bill window wider...5 votes
Itemized bills now get a much larger screen.
I noticed today that there are just last 5 months of data and transactions are shown what if I need to see more or all the transaction since I joined the split-wise.
Please advice and have us an ability to select how much data you wants to see and you can store that data on our phone. Not on your server.

Sorry for the confusion! Splitwise actually keeps all of your data indefinitely – if you’re no longer seeing an old expense, it’s most likely because someone else deleted that bill, or because an old group was automatically hidden due to inactivity.
If you’d like to download a copy of your data, you can always export any group or friend to a spreadsheet on our website. Just log in, click on a friend or group in the left sidebar, then click the settings icon at the top of the right sidebar and choose “Export as spreadsheet”.
It would be cool if there were like a message board so everyone can post anything, things like "Could you pay me by the end of the month?" or "Im broke at the moment, hold on pleasee"... so everyone in the group can see them5 votes
We have something called the whiteboard that the group members can use for this very thing! At the top of the right-hand sidebar, click the speech bubble icon – it’ll bring up a screen where you can record a message.
We do plan on adding more functionality to this in the future (like a time stamp, a history of messages more like a chat, etc). If there is something else you’d like specifically, let us know!
Allow user to download/backup their transaction history in excel or pdf5 votes
You can download a .csv version of your expenses with any friend or group – just visit that page on the web, click the settings/gear icon next to their name, and choose “Export to spreadsheet”.
You can also download monthly PDF summaries for groups by clicking the “view as PDF” link in each month’s header.
I'd like to be able to add people or groups to an expense after it's been created. Many times my friend adds me instead of my boyfriend who will actually be paying for something.5 votes
Some of my friends have registered using their email IDs and others have used their phone #s. Every time I add a friend, I am required to enter the correct credentials with which they have registered.
It would make a great app much better if these details could be synced automatically.
One way could be to take the user's permission and update the phone number upon installation/update.5 votes
Our system remembers the multiple email addresses and phone number a user has associated with their Splitwise account so they can be added by any of these pieces of information. However, these are still dependent on the user adding them or accepting an invite from another email address. Also be aware that they are under the control of the user so they can be removed from their account if they do not want this information there which will prevent them from being added by it.
Add a possibility to auto simplify the debts after every transaction.5 votes
You can do this for a group by setting the “Simplify Debts” toggle in your group settings to on. This will make it re-simplify after each transaction for expenses associated with that group. I hope this helps / is what you meant by the suggestion.
For non group transactions, Splitwise forces debt simplifications to be manual, and we plan to keep it that way. In a group everyone see exactly what is going on and why the balances are the way they are, which is why we can afford to make it automatic.
I hope this helps!
Can you please add what date a payment was made not just when the entry was made...5 votes
You can set the date of the payment when you create it either in the left hand expense create window in the web or in the black bar of buttons on the mobile apps.
Currency is shown as USD even if i select INR. same thing is getting reflected when i checked online.5 votes
Currencies should now get displayed correctly on all platforms. If you are still having issues, please contact email@example.com
create itemized bill between more than just two people, and include itemized bill option on mobile apps.5 votes
(And no, I don't want to use the spreadsheets :) )
Right now, we re-create the group each month after settling accounts- it would sure be easier to just create monthly accounts sheets which can be individually settled.5 votes
Thanks for the suggestion. We do have this on the website right now. If you go to you group, there’s an option in each month header to show balance changes for that month. If you settle each previous month before the next month, this will just be the balance for that month.
Suggest names of people already existing in the other groups. This makes it easier to add and faster too.5 votes
This should be available on web, iPhone and Android now!
For US users, the mobile app imports phone numbers and allows you to invite friends with those phone numbers. Outside the US, we do not automatically import phone numbers, as we’ve found there’s a very high failure rate with sending international SMS messages (lots of people fail to include their country code in the number, or enter a phone number that cannot receive SMS messages).
I'd probably be easier and less confusing if in the amount entry when adding a bill, the decimal keyboard (UIKeyboardTypeDecimalPad) where shown instead of only numbers.5 votes
Update: we’ve moved away from the ATM style input field.
I’ll pass on the suggestion! Right now our number input is designed to work more like ATMs and some other banking apps, where numbers fill in from the right as you type. Sorry for any confusion!
Hi. I'm a longtime buxfer user and have got all my roommates on it too where we track our shared expenses. I have been looking recently at splitwise and the design in IOS looks fantastic. I would like to move to splitwise from buxfer. Is there an easy way to do that? Like export csv from buxfer and import into splitwise ? I have almost 7 years worth of transactions in buxfer and so don't want to lose them when coming to splitwise.
Please help! Thanks5 votes
there should be a provision to add tax paid as well, also a provision to split tax based on the number of items.5 votes
Tax can be added and split when adding an itemized bill. Itemized bills are currently web-only, but we hope to bring them to our mobile apps in the not-too-distant future.
This site uses too much mystery meat navigation. Please add some text to the interface buttons, so I can know what will happen if I click them, without having to guess at the meaning of an icon or look at the address in the status bar. If this muddies your design, at the very least you should display tooltips when hovering above UI elements.5 votes
I think this is mostly done in the new website design. Please let me know if there is anything that does not have useful text on it for navigation.
Auto refresh of dashboard when ever i switch to dashboard.
And autorefresh for every few seconds interval
and also refresh button for dashboard5 votes
Great app, but it desperately needs functionality to include debts that are NOT between every member of a group. For example if someone bought ingredients for a group meal that not everyone in the group ate.
It just needs check-boxes with "who does this debt apply to?" or similar.5 votes
Hey Isaac – Splitwise does this already! Just tap on the “Split equally” button when adding a bill and you can change the split in a variety of ways: excluding people who weren’t involved, splitting by shares or percentages, etc. Hope that helps!
Instead of showing the balances with one of the friends when I click on "Home", it would be more useful if the Default Home page and the landing page when I log in is the Dashboard page - it saves time and quickly gives me the overall status of my balances5 votes
The dashboard is now the default home page for all new users.
- Don't see your idea?
