When entering a bill, it would be handy if there's a quick plus button there so that I can add multiple items fast and easy.
Currently there's an empty button on the number pad that shows up which I think could very well be used for simple plus/minus calculations.359 votes
We just added a very basic calculator function to our web app, so you can now use basic mathematical operations when entering a cost (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). We hope to add similar features to our mobile apps at some point in the future!
This is definitely something we’re considering, though there are some challenges (it’s unclear how we’d verify payments like we do with PayPal or Venmo). We have a few other things to take care of first, but we’d love to integrate at some point.
We’ve actually been fooling around with this in our free time, but it’s surprisingly tricky! We hope it’ll make it to the app someday in the future.
The iOS app is gorgeous and I'm jealous.90 votes
Thanks Jesse, couldn’t agree more. In fact, I’m up-voting this too :) As the Splitwise team’s big Android fan, I keep having to ask my friends to go download Plates so we can use it. Plates for Android is definitely something we want to do, but we’re juggling a ton of priorities on the core app on both iPhone and Android right now. But for sure it’s on our minds, and thanks for submitting the suggestion!
One of my most common tasks with Splitwise is dividing a bill unequally with one other person. It would be very handy if entering the amount for one person would automatically calculate the remaining amount owed for the other individual.74 votes
You’re not the first person to request this, and we would like to do it at some point. Sorry for the wait!
I love using itemized splits on the website, but can't seem to find this feature in the iOS app. Any plans to bring it to iOS?
Itemized splits actually aren’t used all that much on our website, so it’s not currently a high priority to bring them to our mobile apps. (We’re also not totally sure how to adapt the design, as itemized bills require a ton of data entry and phones are generally bad at that.) Still, it’s on our list of possible future improvements. In the meantime, very sorry for the inconvenience!
Thanks for posting – fair enough request. Can’t promise a timeline at the moment but it’s a logical feature idea.
Find a way to integrate Plates with Split Wise so calculations can be ported between apps.49 votes
We definitely want to improve Plates + Splitwise integration over time! Right now, if you share a Plates bill with a friend, they can click on the link and then save their share as a Splitwise IOU. We haven’t had a chance to make updates to Plates in a while, but in the future, we hope to let you do that straight from the Plates app. Until then, apologies for the inconvenience!
Using split wise in ifttt recipes like outputting to a google spreadsheet for example.29 votes
Thanks for submitting your idea. It’s up to IFTTT to add us to the platform, we’ve submitted a request. Hopefully soon!
It would be great for teams (corporate or otherwise) to use a slack integration to keep track of SplitWise data. Slack is one of the top most platforms where most of us are always on - any plans to get that integration done?28 votes
We use Slack too and would like to get this feature added. With our small dev team it might have to wait for a hack day or break in the schedule.
As a pro subscriber I'd like to be able to do the currency conversion in the app not just on the web version28 votes
Update: the Android 4.0 release includes currency conversion.
Thanks for the suggestion and for supporting Splitwise with Pro! This is certainly something we’d like to add in the future.
I can’t give a specific timeline unfortunately but your request totally makes sense, especially since many people will be using their mobile phone while traveling.
If I want to enter a transaction, I want to do this fast, so spent the least possible amount of time on searching and including the right person. The Android app shows all my phonebook contacts, which is not convienient if I just quickly want to add a transaction.
Maybe a separate "import phonebook contacts" button can be made available26 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this would be useful – a lot of people do use the auto-loaded contacts, but I can imagine that being not helpful for some people.
Can ask users to link cards and bank accounts in order to show transactions in split wise so user can select transactions instead of having to do manual entry. Plaid makes a great API (demo.plaid.com) for this: firstname.lastname@example.org votes
This is something we’ve considered and may make in the future.
When entering a new bill (particularly at a restaurant, but there are many scenarios), once all of the names have been entered into "With you and", figure out who owes the most money among the participants and suggest that person as the "Paid by".26 votes
Neat idea, thanks. I had never imagined a scenario where people started to add a bill to Splitwise that hadn’t already been paid for. Will keep in mind. Thanks, Zoe
it would be great to have a widget for the Android app with the following functionality:
- Display one Friend per line
- Display the Avatar, the name, the total owed amount or the amount the friend owes me
- Have a little icon to add a bill and to settle up
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me :)23 votes
An Android widget is a great idea :) We just started work on a pretty big Android update – for now, we’re mostly focused on improving the core app, but we’d love to include cool stuff like widgets in a future release.
Just as the title says. Simple, give us an option to not display the .00 decimal in the app, or even better, determine and specify which currencies actually use decimal point amount of money.
I live in Korea I use Korean Won, naturally, which isn't applicable for decimal notation and I'm pretty sure quite a few more (if not most) currencies don't use decimals.
As a result, entering costs in Splitwise app now requires entering two more zeroes after the dot. KRW 38,500.00 is a pain...22 votes
Very sorry for the trouble! Long-term, we would definitely like to add better support for international currencies with different numbers of decimals, but it will probably be a while before we get around to it. The vast majority of our users use currencies with 2 decimal places, and adding proper support for 0 or 3 decimal places (the other two common values for world currencies) will require significant technical effort both on our servers and in our mobile apps.
Again, apologies for the inconvenience!
I couldn't find Whiteboard option in Android App.
It it is there, kindly guide me to it.21 votes
Sorry for the trouble! You’re right, the whiteboard isn’t in our mobile apps yet, but we’re hope to add it and/or other new messaging features to our apps in the future. In the meantime, apologies for the inconvenience!
a calendar feature that helps a home group keep track of who gets paid when, and when bills are due. To help figure out who will actually pay the bill, and then be owed by the rest of the group.19 votes
Thanks Randy! Have you tried using the ‘recurring bill’ feature? Interested to know whether that meets this need, or whether you think we need a calendar function on top of it. Thanks for using Splitwise and writing in!
UPI is a payment method introduced in India to transact between users and organisation. it would simplify the transactions between users if that can be integrated to Splitwise ✌18 votes
Hello. We’d love to add some kind of Indian payments option soon. Thanks for suggesting UPI as a potential integration. Cheers!
It would be better if we add location of where the expense is made and filter the expense then it would be more easier..18 votes
Hey Krishna – thanks for the suggestion! We’ve thought a bit about location data before, and it’s something that might show up in a future version of the app. Until then, apologies for any inconvenience!
