    Hi there,

Thanks for the clear suggestion. Makes sense to me, but also probably slow for large accounts.

Leaving open / under review to see how many other folks want to vote for it.

    Best,
    Jon

  3. Help Button or Link

You ought to have a "Help" or "Documentation" link somewhere in the UI.

Sorry for the trouble! We currently have a “Feedback” link in the lower right of every page, which includes links to all our helpdesk articles. I’ll pass on your suggestion and see if it makes sense to add additional help links elsewhere on our website.

  4. Provide a tutorial and "how to"

I love the concept and design of your website. But I can't find a place to learn how to use it, and how to share the "how to" part with others who are not yet on SplitWise.

Sorry for the trouble! We try to make Splitwise self-explanatory as much as possible, with small tutorials as you use the app, but I definitely see how a more complete “how to” guide would be useful. I’ll add that to our list of possible improvements for the future.

  5. send msg to all people owe me

can you introduce a option to send message to all the people "owe me" instead of sending them individually. Ex:a option that can send the msg "guys i want to settle all balance before may 5th " to all people who owe me money.

i asked this because i have 50 people who owe me.

    Hi there,

Thanks for posting – I personally use Splitwise a lot of course and have a lot of small debts to me as well, so a “remind all” is something I’ve been thinking about a bit. We have a busy roadmap so I’m going to leave this under review to see how many people would also like this or have other suggestions.

For now, you can always remind the largest debtors individually by using the “send reminder button,” and active users will also get the monthly summary to help remind them as well.

    Thanks,
    Jon

Thanks for the suggestion! I can definitely see how this would be useful. For now, we do have a basic “totals” feature that can show you spending for a specific month. In our mobile apps, you can find this by going to a group and looking under the “More” menu; on the web, you can find this by going to a group and clicking “Trends” at the top of the right sidebar.

  7. Please consider a first year free and subsequently a $1/year subscription model like WhatsApp used to have.

Occasionally Splitwise will ask me to consider paying $x/month. I use Splitwise just once or twice a month for splitting movie tickets and dinner with friends. A monthly subscription would be a little too much but I am open to paying a $1 fee per year even for the non-Pro version like what WhatsApp used to have.

  8. help users plan for the future, and integrate group and personal accounts more smoothly

I want to preface this by saying that I think your work is great, and I'm giving you this feedback because SplitWise is obviously a powerful tool with a lot of potential -- and I want to help you harness that potential for good. At the moment, SplitWise is enabling consumer debt rather than combating it, and I want to share my personal experience of how I'm watching that play out. Unless you're in cahoots with those who make their money off of consumer debt and are therefore doing this on purpose, read on!

Using SplitWise actually makes it much…

So sorry for the trouble, and thanks for the thorough feedback!

I agree that Splitwise isn’t very good at budgeting right now – we help people keep an accurate record of how much they owe each other, but we don’t do much to rein in total spending or to coordinate spending by multiple individuals. We’d definitely like to add more budgeting-conscious features in the future, so hopefully that’s something we can work on!

For now, we do have a few features that may help you with basic budgeting tasks:
    - On the web, you can view a category-by-category breakdown for each month’s spending. Go to a group, then click the “Trends” button at the top of the right sidebar, and then click the “More details” link in the sidebar.
    - On our mobile apps, you can get a quick look at a group’s total spending on the “Group totals” screen.…

  9. Order people in group balances tab by level of debt

... to easily show on top who should pay for next lunch :)

    Cheers!

  10. List of expanses, categories with different colours

I share this app for the flat with my boyfriend and it would be useful to have a simpel list with all the expanses that we have, to know at the end of the month how much we spent.
Within this list it would be great to be abel to put the expanses into different categories and give them different colours therefor.

I’m curious, what kind of categorization are you looking at? We already support categorizing expenses by type – entertainment, food & drink, home, life, transportation etc with lots of subcategories.

If you have a request for specific category to be added, you can reach out to us at support@splitwise.com

  11. add an option to filter by non-group expenses only

in both the web app and the mobile apps.

On the mobile apps, you can access all non group expenses by tapping the “Non group expenses” row on the Groups tab.

We don’t have a parallel for this on the web app. We might look into implementing this in the future.

  12. Share the balance via Whatsapp

It would be great if I can send a message to Whatsapp (telegram, etc..) with the balance of any group.
Something the not all the group is checking the application or they even don't want to download it, so you need to use other channels to share the balance.

We do allow you to send reminders via email in the app and on the website you can grab a printable group summary from the group expense list month headers. I’m not sure if we’ll ever support whatsapp directly, but we’ll consider it if this gets a lot of votes.

  14. More robust graphs/trends on mobile

The ability to see YTD spending, break down by cost type, etc. would be great. Also, perhaps a spreadsheet view of expenses.

Thanks for the suggestion! Our website currently has a few more advanced charts and graphs (totals by category, printable monthly summaries), and our iPhone app has a few basic charts as of v4.0 (group totals, export as spreadsheet). We’re hoping to bring similar features to Android soon, and to add more features as time goes on :)

  15. Option to export expenses to mail directly

It would be good if one can just open their mail and see details of expenses and debts rather than downloading spreadsheet n viewing it from there.
So please consider adding this option.

  16. Sync friends with iOS Contacts

Currently, app friend will not display changes in name of friends, or additional email addresses if added recently.

But such a great app! 5 stars!

  17. Add a trip(or Event) feature inside a group among same friends

A trip or event option inside a group of four friends gives them the ability to see how much they spent for each trip separately rather than showing the total balance of all trip expenses in group dashboard.

Thanks for the suggestion! That definitely makes sense as a feature on our apps.

There is already a way to export your receipts, but only on the website (splitwise.com). If you click an expense that has a receipt, and then click on the receipt itself, you’ll notice that the image opens up in a new tab. From there, you can just right click on it to save the image.

  19. Allow manual archiving of group

Manual archiving of group should be allowed. If the trip is over and everyone is settled, I'd want to get rid of the group still keeping the record in archives.

I think this is a great idea! It’s not on the roadmap yet due to lots of other priorities voted higher, but one we’ve discussed and agreed totally makes sense. Thanks for submitting.

  20. If you use "split equally" remove the checkbox-feature.

I came across multiple people who put expenses as split equally but unchecked themselves from the expense. It's a very sneaky thing to do and you have to manually check the expense. So if you add people to an expense and you choose to split equally the ability to remove people should be more clear, like putting a warning on the activity like "split equally among unequal people" or something.

Sorry for the trouble! I can see how this would be easy to miss if used maliciously, though it is also an intentional feature. (In some groups, it’s quite common for people to add bills that don’t involve themselves.)
