currency rate
Currently currency exchange rate is provided automatically and one cannot change it. Typically one cannot buy other currency at official rate as the agent selling the currency also have some margin so we never buy money with the rate splitwise suggests. My idea is to make possible to specify custom exchange rate
Thanks for the suggestion. Makes sense, sorry it’s not there already. I’m going to leave it open for further voting.
Best,
Jon

Voting has closed for such an important feature! Without this, currency conversion is not really usable, payer always pay more then official exchange rate. Simple group settings, can be default to 0% to add in exchange rates, but in reality it is about 5-10%.

+1 to this feature! In addition to a manual exchange rate entry feature, it would also be great to pull current exchange rates from major banks and have them available in app to simply select, as many folks pay with their credit carts when traveling abroad.

+1. It's nearly unusable since the conversion rate is not precise to reality & it fluctuates! Will be great if we can set the rate manually per trx.

I second the suggestion; the interbank rate provided by Splitwise does not reflect the reality for most of us

I am feeling exactly what the above user is describing and it kinda blocks me from using the conversion method at all and do a lot of manual calculations instead. Would love this feature!

I bought Pro version only because currency conversion, but it useless, when I can't define currency rate. It is very bad, that aplication don't show what rate will use. I have to made testing group to find out, what rate aplication will use. I bought pro version and we have to do it like non pro version. Change this behaviour please.

I don't know how the pro app get the conversion rate but it is different with 5% in comparing to the google conversion rate. Using the pro version put me in big trouble and now need to re-enter all the payments again to convert it manually. Definatelly the biggest power or he pro/paid version is not implemented in a usable way. At least the conversion rate should be possible to be enter

when traveling abroad and getting cash from ATM there is quite a difference between published rates and actual bank rates.

I converted the currency before my trip at one price, then took from ATM at another price. Splitwise gives a currency rate which no one gives. Even the pro is not supporting.

On my trip we visited Argentina for 2 weeks and crossed to Brazil for one day! When we added the BRL expenses it was hard to consolidate them with the ARS ones. Ideally we could have enter it in BRL, and either the app proposes the exchange rate, either it gives the option to manually set an exchange rate as to keep All expenses in the main currency of the trip.

Other payment program allow u to add multiple versions of the same currency as we do not all exchange money at the same time and each of us gets different rates. Now u dont allow manual input at all so we cant put in anything. Plus, ur exchange rate that u offer is also offshore rate that is not what our credit card or bank charges us, its easier for us to just create and manage that ourselves

It will make multiple currency expense sum up easier.

The actual currency always different from the market currency rate. I hope I would set the currency rate by myself.

My credit card has a slightly different exchange rate than the official ones given, so it means that there can be a 1-3% difference in the actual amount involved when pressing "Convert to USD". It would be nice to allow users to enter their own conversion rate to better reflect actual amounts paid.

Multiple currencies used within a group should be configurable not only by currency type but also by exchange rate input by the user. One of the currencies needs to be the main/home currency. Following this concept each entered item is denominated in its currency and if not entered in the main/home currency, instantly converted. Both values are then stored, preserving original value and currency and make the process repeatable in case the exchange rate needs to be adjusted. Splitwise please do this first. Else you will see some other app adding this feature and your user base just vanish.

I'd prefer to see a feature where the currency exchange rate used is the one on the day of the entered expense. All this information is available historically online from xe or x-rates, etc.

Jon,
maybe you could check out the app "Share-a-Bill". The app is old and lacks many of Splitwise's advanced functionality, but has this very neat and simple currency conversion functionality.
