is it possible to integrate UPI (UNIFIED PAYMENT SYSTEM) for Indian users ??
UPI is a payment method introduced in India to transact between users and organisation. it would simplify the transactions between users if that can be integrated to Splitwise ✌
Thanks for suggesting UPI as a payment method. We’re looking into UPI, and would like to know your thoughts on how you’d like Splitwise to support UPI:
- Integrate with a UPI app like BHIM or PhonePe
- Integrate with your banking app
- Let you send money to a virtual address, phone #, or IFSC from within Splitwise
- Something else?
Please let us know in the comments!

I would like to see support for paying with my UPI app of choice - it could be any of BHIM, Google Pay (Tez), Phone Pe, Paytm etc. Splitwise should not get into the business of directly interfacing with banks or UPI protocol - lots of great apps already do that, we don't need another one, and it's not easy to implement anyway.

Any updates on the progress? Have you decided the method? Redirecting to a UPI app of user choice looks like the fastest way to send payment requests, although it would mean the payment has to be marked manually in Splitwise, which should still be okay in the interim till full integration happens.

It will be awesome if we get UPI payment option inside the app where the user can simply click the settle button and choose cash or UPI option and make the payment

App is widely used in India and if UPI payment is introduced along with Paytm that would boost both users as well as payments with in app. Would be win win scenario.

You could redirect to/integrate with other UPI providers like WhatsApp, Phone Pe just like you already have PayTM. Not sure if banks will cooperate, us you'll need to make separate deals with every bank and end up missing one or another on the banks list - whatsapp, PayTM etc cover all banks. On the other hand, if you integrate UPI directly into Splitwise, you would be bound by various regulatory requirements and infra setup from step 0, which I presume you would prefer to avoid.

There is a new way to pay via unique UPI id directly through your bank. It is very popular in india. Add this payment method to your app. please

Any expense added in Splitwise stays there unsettled forever. If there was a proper payment option integrated into the app, it would have encouraged faster settlements. I always wanted to see a payment option(not Paytm, at least give an option to direct payment from the bank ) in the app since I started using the app. I would suggest UPI integration into the app.

I think integrating with an existing provider should be sufficient. Anyway Splitwise is supposed to manage splitting of expenses, payment is a different domain.

We, at Equal Experts, have done an MVP where we built an adapter for services to integrate with UPI. Our system can expose API's which can then be used by Splitwise to allow users to settle payments. For more details you drop us a message on twitter @equalexperts @kryptonyoddha and we'll get back to you.
p.s. just today we were discussing on a use case where Splitwise can integrate with us. -

Many people do not like to receive money on wallets because they cannot withdraw amount from ATM. They get restricted to use services of wallets. Thus integrating a UPI platform such as PhonePe or Tez would help alot of us.

allowing users to settle up with Tez and phonepay makes settlement easier than with paytm. as users will be able to settle from bank to bank
