Allow one person to cover for his family
if 2 couples and 2 individual people sharing bill, then I should be able to add bill such that each person in couple is paying for 2 (i.e. Husband is paying for his wife). So that we don't need to add extra sharing for the wife but bill is also split by exact number of person.
You can do this by adding expenses by shares on the website.

Shares is not a compete implementation of this feature. Stop side-stepping the request and build it already.

Agreed! Shares introduce some mind work which is against the simplicity of Splitwise. Having "cover bills" feature separates cost split from settling up and makes it much clearer.

I too felt the need of what Jack mentioned, on a trip recently. We were 4 families and each family had 4-5 members. So only 4 people who were gonna pay and 18 people in the trip.

Using shares definitely works, but it'd be nice to have it as a default setting for the whole group/trip. On a long trip with many expenses it's a pain to set shares for each bill. And it's error prone too. Thanks!

We need this too. We went on a trip with 7 couples, not all of whom were tech savvy. Being able to accumulate bills by person was important, as different people did different things. But we needed the ability to designate one member of each of the couples as the one who would handle all the eventual payments. We need the ability to delegate payments to another person to dramatically reduce the number of payments that need to be made, and to give visibility as to final bills.

Ok but if my wife and I go to dinner with a group, and someone else pays, we both get separate bills. I should be able to delegate the bill to her (or she delegates to me) so that we only need to pay once.
Additionally, I shouldn't ever owe my wife, or vice versa. I realize that specifying merged accounts has privacy implications, but this should at least be an option.
