It will really help if you can add a feature to edit friend's name and email address. When adding a new friend, if we only enter their email id thinking that we can add their name later, it is then no tpossible. Also there are times when we would like to add more email addresses for the same person for him to get reminders.
the system by default takes the email id as the name - if changing the name is too technical for splitwise, how about adding a new field called "nickname" for friends :)

It looks like "edit friend names" is a trivial request which would help a lot. However it seems years passed and nothing has been done to resolve this. I love Splitwise and being pro subscriber for years I am a big advocate for this app among my friends. Up to now tens of people started using Splitwise with my invite. Confusing names is the biggest issue for me using the app. I am canceling my pro subscription until this little tiny feature is fixed. Maybe this is the leverage we users may use to motivate the developer?

This has been a wanted feature for over six years now and it doesn't look like SplitWise and its team has the willingness or the knowledge of how to implement it. WhatsApp has the right idea in this regard where it shows you a contact as you have saved it. It works even in groups. One-sixth of the world's population lives in my country and man it's a problem if I can't distinguish between my friends or call them by my chosen name at least for my own reference.

If somebody else comes around with the feature, let me tell you it would take us just one round of settling all outstanding bills before taking off SplitWise and canceling our pro subscription :-(

You have two tickets on this already – one supposedly ”completed” (but did not resolve the issue) and another ”declined” (from years ago) – but the issue remains.

It is very awkward to organize payments by random names entered by other persons since they do not follow any standard format. Some users register themselves with first name only, some others using the Firstname Lastname format. Then there are those who prefer Lastname Firstname, and yet some others with some obscure nickname. While Splitwise is a great service, the names thing is a complete mess until you allow people to organize their friends by renaming them in their personal friends list.

I have 2 friends with same name like Priya and priya (lowercase p). So, when I add an expense and search for my friend's name. I am confused as which one it is. So, if I can edit a friend's name just locally for my reference as "Priya from San Francisco" and "Priya from Boston" it would be very useful.

Please provide an option to edit contact names at the least. To start with, there should be a tab about all contacts that one usually has to deal with.People are inherently stupid. They don't know how to write their own names so that it is easy for others to identify them. If you give an user the option to edit his/ her contacts, that would make the user's life a little easy.

I would like to see a friend with his email address (or another alias) instead of his current alias, which is "dad" because one of his kids added him. And he's not my dad, he's a friend.

please include a feature to have alias name for a friend. it is very difficult to manage friend names once they login because the same names for different persons can be very confusing to manage

I agree. I would suggest to add this as feature to have an alias name for a friend or have an option to edit the name

Sometimes friends log in only with first names or confusing names. It would be very helpful to at least have a possibility to give aliases to other users. This would prevent e.g. having four Jonhs among friends which at times can be cumbersome.

I know that we can manage user detail also if user isn't already logged. Once a user is logged in only the user can modify his name.

Anyway this is very difficult to manage. In example I have three users (Jane, Jacopo, Joy) that I added in a group. Everything was fine because I entry name and surname and I was able to recognize and well manage. After two of them logged in, they both use just J to identify theyself without pic too. This is very difficults to manage. When some their friends haven't a misconfusing namen, they don't hit in a problem. When someone, like me, have both of them in a group this is completly crazy.

I suggest to leave possibility to each of us to change name in our address list. No matter how each user want to call his account . The ID for user can be the email so no problem occured.

Otherwise please to give possibility to identify a friend with email or something that is a unique identifier.

As a user, I should be able to set alias for my friends.

I have been added to a group and have now got 2 members of my of the group called ICE Babe and ICE Dad. These are my wife's family and I'd like to change the names to their actual names. Nice app guys and gals.

Once my friend activates his/her account, the name changes automatically, which is annoying..
