Edit friends name.
I want to edit the name of my friend as I want it so that i can distinguish between them and find out who he is looking at his name as some of my friends have the same name it is really becoming tough for me.

I can see how this would be a huge help for people who have many friends with the same name who refuse to add their last name to their accounts! This isn’t on our roadmap yet, but it’s something we’ll consider in the future.

agree with most of the comments of having nickname. IT's quite irritating to see the full email address of the people who don't edit there settings to add default name.

adding a nickname for people would be helpful that way you arent changing their actual name. It would be especially helpful for things like Landlord, Roommate, Ex Husband.

When there are two people with same name in the group or the same person is added with multiple email ids on the group, it becomes difficult to know which one is which when splitting expenses on the group. it would be helpful if we can view the email id of the person as well or add a custom name to that specific person so that they can be identified

Please add this feature. I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what my friend's name is; I've pinged her and now I can't add this group transaction until I figure it out. This missing feature is enough to make me scrap this whole service and just use venmo to request the money from each person since it's so annoying each time!

I too have same issue. Unable to distinguish between two friends with same name. Would be better if I have alias name that I can set. Thanks.

You should also be able to delete friends because some people/transactions are a one time thing vs. reoccurring group I'm a part of.

I got added to Splitwise via an email from my daughter, and now my husband appears as 'Dad'. I can't create a group to split bills with another couple while he appears as Dad!
Please, PLEASE do consider adding account-specific nicknames for Friends and Groups - otherwise you might be causing unnecessary paternity suits :)
Suggestion: Friends should be identified by their email addresses, which they are unique in the outside (global) world.
And naturally we would like to be able to have account-specific (local) names, visible only to the account logged in.
Thank you very much!!

Simple nickname only visible for me would be sufficient. Right now I always have to double and triple check history to determine that I picked one John right out of four.

I am using splitwise more and more and I realize I am kind of deep user of it. However, with more and more friends on it, it becomes really hard to tell their usernames. About half of my friends won't use real name on website (or even on the whole Internet), so I think it's IMPORTANT to add name editing. On the other hand, I don't think it's hard for splitwise, adding a nickname for friends is nothing but adding a nickname table in your DB.

I second this request. Having friends with all sorts of naming conventions for their accounts drive the OCD me crazy! Especially when a few of my friends with the same first name are in the same group and they refuse to list their last names. Very, very annoying. I would like an option to edit names in the way that only appears to me, like a nickname that I give each account where only I can see.

Some other ideas. If I clear a friend's nickname then it should revert back to their preferred name. The initial starting point for a new nickname should come from the preferred name. This is how IM works where the login name is different from the desired alias or local aliases. In addition to the problem of having two "Tom"s to distinguish between, I personally prefer proper names for all my contacts for consistency. Right now if my friend has a name like "Fat Albert" I would like to remove the ambiguity and add a nickname like "Albert Chow".
