allow receiver to confirm payment before it reflects in splitwise
Today my friend updated that he maid a payment to me for the money he owed me. This got reflected on my dashboard, which now shows that he does not owe me any money. In this case, he transferred the money through internet banking. Before the changes get reflected on the dashboard, splitwise should ask me for confirmation whether I have received the payment. If I say yes (after checking my bank account) then only it should show on my dashboard that my friend does not owe me any money.
Splitwise actually used to work this way, but we got rid of the confirmation step because people complained that it was too much of a hassle (and we agreed). We think that Splitwise becomes too difficult to use if you have to manually approve every change in your account.
Our in-between solution was email notifications. By default, you should get an email any time someone says they have paid you, and then if you wish you can double-check that they have actually given you money. (And if they haven’t, then you can delete the payment from Splitwise!) You can also see a full record of changes in your account at any time by going to the “Recent activity” screen.
Hope that makes sense! Let us know if you have questions or concerns.

It would be nice if I can mark my debt for myself as settled up as a reminder and my counterpart could confirm it after from his side.

let us activate confirmation, both scenarios are valid

Instead of someone logging "settle up" which instantly affects to the balance, the receiver of the money should confirm settle

There are always naughty friends in your group. They'd just settle up in the app without actually paying. Settle-up between two people should be agreed & accepted from both sides. For ex: If I say that I have settled up with my friend Gaurav. He should receive a notification & should accept & agree to that in the App.

currently whoever i shared the cost with is able to unilaterally change the expense as "paid" -- without my approval. then she can settle the expense. it should be accepted before the cost can be changed to "paid".

Why don’t you add this as a “Toggle button” in settings so that people who wants to use this feature will turn and if they are ok with other way they can turn off the toggle right. Thanks.

Settle notification should go to the settled person. When he approved then it should update

I think that only the one that created the expense, should be able to register the corresponding payment. The other person just needs to pay, and that's all. That's what I need...

Suppose i want to settle up bill so I can do it without paying and it will update in database. there is no confirmation system. if only the other person confirms it is settled then only it should update in database.

for now anybody can record a payment with anybody. But instead the approval of the reciever should be needed.

You can send OTP to members of the group to check that they are included in expense or balance is settled up

Dear Team,
Currently Splitwise app has no approval system in case of setting the balances.
Eg. I have paid 100 bucks to my friend, he can settle the balances directly without paying me. So, there should be approval system. -

people settle up their balance without even letting the owner know, lender sometimes unaware of small amounts which some people settle.
It should send the otp to the owner and only after owner confirms the otp then balance should get settle. -

For example X owes some money to Y. Before paying actual amount X just press the button settle up and all the details will vanish from main page so. Instead of this to make sure that X pays the money to Y just give an option of email or SMS otp service. To person Y so that he can claim the unsettle amount and then delete the payment after the mutual confirmation.
