Our solution to messaging is expense-based commenting:
As of December 2013, you can add comments to any expense from the web app. An email alert will be sent to everyone on that expense with the content of your comment.

Well, I wanted to tell them that they forgot the room bill, but no way of messageing.
You might want to add a option for a counter to day all bills need to be submited...

this is a useless answer! I need to be able to send a general message to all members of my group, not tied to a specific expense!!!
