Track a bill when simplify debts in ON
We use keep the "Simplify Debts" option ON to reduce the number of settlements required within the group. Due to this, I don't get to know how the bill gets split up and simplified, and settlements are for completely different (calculated) amounts. Is there a way I can track how the bill amount got split up / simplified amongst the group
Very sorry for the trouble! We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to explain why you owe what you owe when simplify debts is on, and unfortunately it’s fiendishly difficult (since it often ends up depending on a chain of expenses that goes back for months). Still, we hope we can make some updates in the future that help make it clearer. In the meantime, my apologies for the confusion!

We've created a group for our Christmas trip, and on the web I can see that "Simplify debt" option is on, and what it means. However my friend looking at it on the mobile app couldn't see it, and got confused, and paid individual debts to others. It took a while to explain all of this to her, and also make sure all the transactions are now properly recorded. I think there should be a UI update to show better when a group uses "Simplify debt" and what it means.

This would be great, even if you just warn folks when they're about to settle a simplified debt.
When we use simplify debts in my group, two of the participants are a couple, and they always try to just pay the full amount they owe each other (they don't really pay anything, they share a bank account). This totally messes up simplify debts as then Splitwise just re-simplifies the debt and they get a balance again.

It would be good to see how a specific transaction in a group with simplify debts ( enabled ) affected each person involved in the debts. Because presently simplify debts is a spectacular feature which makes life easier , but the main problem is it causes more confusion to group members as the detailed transactions is not presented in the app. This confusion defeats the purpose of simplifying debts in the first place. It asks for blind belief in the application , which misses out the satisfaction of the user is not aware where and how his / her money is have been spread out. This feature helps transparency of transaction among all the users in the group.
A graphical detailed picture of the simplify debt would be very much appreciated by the user and I am sure the application would be more spreadout .

When I owe someone some money or When someone owes me some money, I would like to know why. When I click on it if the app is able to explain how it simplified the debt, and how it arrived to that particular conclusion, it will be easier to trust the app's calculation.

I genuinely like the debt simplification feature, but inevitably someone in the group doesn't get it and they try to pay each debt individually. It always screws everything up and people are confused. It's happened every time I've used the app with different groups of people. If you could just bring up a message that says "this group uses debt simplification and it works like this..." it would make life easier.

Is there a way I can see exactly why someone owes me something? E.g. you owed Sam $4 and Sam owed Susie $8 so you owe Susie $4 etc.

Hi
First of all Splitwise is great and especially the option to simplify debt.
However there are some critical people in our group who don't always trust the simplify debt system (even though it has never been wrong) so I suggest to show a little explanation when Splitwise simplifies debt. For example A owes B $10 and C enters a new expense that B owes $10 to C have the system show a message why the debt got simplified like this.
