Add preferred people to debt simplification
Debt Simplification can be more awesome if i can re-simplify adding a preferred payer
Thanks for the suggestion – I’ll pass it on! I can see how this would be useful for Splitwise users who have a large number of friends.
HI, in our Team we have quite many shared expenses and I've noticed that average balance for those who are taking the costs is always negative. That's because of people being slow on returns. So I decided to try to add a Deposit so when the costs will appear, the one who takes them, may simply deduct the amount from that amount. And I believe it would work fine, but our Team has Smart / Simplification enabled, therefore my Deposit automatically redirects the responsibility to other Team Members.
My idea is to make a Switch Button in the Add Expense window, which will allow us to decide if this particular amount is to be shared with others in terms of debt collection, or will be just a relationship between two users.
As the output for example it would look like this:
A pays 20 EUR, therefore B, C, D owes 5 EUR Each (A pays for himself). I (D) decide to make a deposit, I (D) add expense directly to A, and put let's say 30 EUR.
In the result, B and C still owes 5 EUR each, D has +25 (5 EUR used to cover the expense), and A balance is -15 EUR (+10 from B, C, and -25 from D). In that way by knowing that these -25 is a deposit, A may be calm, and so would be D, since i would not be late in payments, A will just add expenses and they will be covered from the Deposit.
Maybe you can also add a tick box called "Direct Deposit" so these will be again only the relationships between two users and at the same time will not show A in minus maybe?
This will definitely make SplitWise even more useful and flexible, however for those who don't like this idea, it would be still optional. See only a goods things are about to come! :)

For instance at the end of a group holiday its much easier if I owe my housemate rather than a person I don't know as well in the group. This could then net with debts from other Splitwise groups I have ongoing with my housemate.

Consider the situation where person A is owed money by persons B and C.
Suppose A and B are good friends, B and C are good friends, but A and C are only acquaintances.
Now, when A tries to simplify debts with B and C, it transfers all the debt that B owes to A, as C owes to A (this can happen when C owes to B already).
This is not an ideal outcome for A because A and C don't have frequent transactions, and A is hesitant to ask C to pay him.
Instead if there were a feature, which asks the user to enter preferred direction of simplification, that will be immensely helpful. In the above situation, the ideal position would be one where the only pending balances are between A and B, and between B and C; thereby removing the awkwardness of transactions between A and C.
