Consider the situation where person A is owed money by persons B and C.

Suppose A and B are good friends, B and C are good friends, but A and C are only acquaintances.

Now, when A tries to simplify debts with B and C, it transfers all the debt that B owes to A, as C owes to A (this can happen when C owes to B already).

This is not an ideal outcome for A because A and C don't have frequent transactions, and A is hesitant to ask C to pay him.

Instead if there were a feature, which asks the user to enter preferred direction of simplification, that will be immensely helpful. In the above situation, the ideal position would be one where the only pending balances are between A and B, and between B and C; thereby removing the awkwardness of transactions between A and C.
