  1. [BUG] splitting the bill

If you select "I owe (person)" or "(person) owes me" when telling the app how to split it, it then becomes locked and you cannot later change it (as you can when you select split the bill).

For example let's say I create an expense because I owe someone, so I select that. After filling everything out, I realize I don't owe them the full amount, just half of it. I would have to delete that expense and start over creating a new expense in order to make that change, as that is not editable.

  3. Merge Account should merge (not simply migrate)

When one merges two or more accounts, they should still be able to login using the original accounts login information, blocking one to recreate the un-merged accounts. Currently the merge feature works more like migrate.

    P.S. love this app.

Update: merging accounts now keeps both email addresses.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’d definitely like to support this, and hope to add this feature once we add the ability for an account to have multiple email addresses.

  4. 1. after you settle up- show history somewhere.

    Hello,
i'm using your application and i noticed there is something missing (for me at least).
i was using the app with my roommate to put monthly bills, but after i settle up with her and i wasn't sure if i charge her for the internet bill of last month i had nowhere to go see if i did it or not.
    So i have a 2 suggestion:
    1. after you settle up- show history somewhere.
    2. an option to enter bills by months so ppl can see the bill and for what month the bill was for.

    Would love…

Once you settle up with a friend or settle up with everyone in a group, we hide all the previous expenses with them, but we don’t delete them.

To view them, you can simply tap on the big green checkmark that appears on your friend/group screen that says “You are all settled up”. Once you tap on it, you should be able to see all your old expenses.

For your second suggestion, you’ll be glad to know that Splitwise already supports recurring bills!

When adding a new bill on the web or in our mobile apps, click on the date. This should reveal a screen that allows you to change the date of the bill and set a repeat interval (weekly, monthly, etc).

If your bill repeats, you will also have the option to set an email reminder for a few days in advance. That reminder will be sent to…

  5. The ability to add bill to group with non-group participants

We are a group of about 9 that often do things together (go out to eat, go to the movies and such). As we do it on a regular basis we just keep track of things with splitwise. However sometimes during our events we bring along people from outside the group that join in. If we then would have splitwise split the bill we couldn't add it to our group as we got non group members. This means that we suddenly have bills which are pretty much group based outside the group creating the need for double payments instead of…

We do have this in the app right now, but it’s a little hard to find. When you’re adding an expense with your group, you can just add more people to the list of tokens next to the group at the top of the add bill form. It won’t keep the non-group people on the expense permanently, but it will create 2 separate expenses from the initial version that you added, one in the group and one with just the other people.

The only tricky part is that the person paying for the expense usually needs to be the one to add it to the system in this case.

  6. Put a basic calculator that pops out while writing the total expense

Sometimes, a calculator is needed to add up all the trip or shopping expenses which has to be distributed amongst some.So below the description, there can be a button next to expense which can pop out on click. We can do all the calculations and when we press okay on the calculator, the same amount will be reflected in the expense area.

On the web you can input calculations directly into the amount field and the result will be input when you save the expense.

I’m assuming this is an issue when adding expenses? If so, you can click on the equally token when adding an expense and choose who is involved in the expense.

  8. Adding contacts iOS vs Android

It's kind of strange that you add contacts in iOS with their email address and on android with their phone number. So I got some doubled contacts on my phone.

Sorry for the confusion! You should be able to add contacts by either email address or phone number* on both platforms. Is it possible that you have different contact book info on your devices (e.g. maybe your iPhone has someone’s email address on it, but your Android device only has their phone number)?

*Adding contact by phone number may be disabled or modified in some countries where SMS invites are legally restricted.

Sorry for the confusion! You can remove a group member at any time, as long as that person has settled up all of their group balances. Just go to the group’s settings page, then hit the “X” next to that person’s name.

  10. share rent with irregular stays

In this apartment, staffs of a company who are in a foreign mission come to stay for 3 months but they dont arrive at the same time. one will be sent earlier and the other for example 10 days later and so on, making an irregular rent sharing system. With 800$ a month, the rule is to share equally and per day of stay in a month. Suppose that there are 3 of us and and one of us comes to stay from the 15th, then: 800÷30÷3×15
    800 (rent)÷ 30 (days)÷ 3 (number of people)× 15 (number of days stayed).…

Hey there! There are multiple possible ways to handle a situation like this (see our old travel calculator for examples: https://www.splitwise.com/calculators/travel), but it sounds like you probably want the “split by shares” feature. When adding a new expense, just tap on the “split equally” button to change the split, and then choose “split by shares”. You can then give each person shares as follows:

    Person 1: 30 shares
    Person 2: 30 shares
    Person 3: 15 shares

Splitwise will calculate each person’s share so that Person 3 ends up paying half as much as Person 1 and Person 2.

Hey there – if you’re using Splitwise on your mobile device, you should be able to do this already! If you’ve granted the Splitwise app access to your contacts, then we’ll automatically let you invite/add people who have a valid email address or US phone number. (Please note that we don’t import phone numbers for some non-US countries right now – that’s something we hope to improve in the future!)

If you’re adding an expense in a group or friendship, it should use the most recently used currency in the group or friendship when you add the expense. If you usually use one currency, you can set it in your account settings to use when there isn’t a recent expense in your group or friendship.

  13. link directly to the new group when you receive an invite notification

Hi! When I receive a notification that someone has added me to a group, and I click "Visit now", I'm directed to my Splitwise homepage, not the specific group. Seems like it would be helpful to be taken directly to the group.

Hmm…I just double-checked, and our “added to a group” email already appears to work this way (e.g. when you click the link, it takes you directly to the new group). If you’re experiencing something different, could you forward the email you received to support@splitwise.com, so we can look into it? Thanks!

  15. Only notes option

Please provide an option to add only notes- like if the newspaper did not come on 14th and 22nd of the month, or if the maid was on leave for a week- so that we know how much to pay at the end of the month to the maid or the newspaper guy.

Saludos

This feature already exists in Splitwise! You can add a bill with a future date, and you can also schedule a bill to repeat in the future every week, every fortnight, every month, etc.
