Great idea! To be honest, it’s a lot of extra work to create a custom user-by-user system (maybe a good idea for the Pro version?), so that’s not likely in the near term. But if you have suggestions for words to add, please feel to email us at support@splitwise.com or add them to the comments. We also review the system periodically and add new “magic” words when we think of ones to add.

My partner and I live together in one household right now, and split most of our expenses equally (ex. grocery stores, utilities, etc.). We therefore enter many of the same transactions into Splitwise. However, for some of those entries that occur very frequently, the category is not automatically recognized, so I always have to manually select the correct category from the menu, which feels too inefficient. I would like a feature that allows me to add and manage my own "category recognition" rules, where I could add rules that each say a vendor/description of my choice will automatically be associated with a category of my choice. There is a similar function in the budgeting app Mint ("transaction rules"), which I use in conjunction with Splitwise. This would be a huge timesaver for me!
