  1. Trip Expenditure per person

When I create a new trip, and add expenses.
It will be good if I can get a report of how much it costed per person.
For ex, total trip expenditure was about $500, and 4 people, assuming, we all shared money equally, the cost-per-person listing will help track travel expenditure.

We don’t have a “post trip report” yet, but we do have monthly spending charts in the web interface fro groups (under the trends icon in the far right) and you can click on view full charts to get detailed spending summaries.

  2. Split groups of expenses

It would great to be able to group expenses such that only expenses in that group will be reconciled. Other expenses involving the same people would not be included in the "person a owes person b" amounts for that expense group.

The use case for this is that in some instances certain debts may need to be resolved before others. Grouping them would allow us to settle specific debts on differing timetables.

Hey Joseph – are you aware of our “groups” feature? It does basically what you describe. You can create a new group by hitting the menu button in the upper-left, and then choosing “Create a new group”.

Let me know if I’ve misunderstood your suggestion!

  3. Archive debts

The option to archive (instead of deleting) a debt/group would reduce clutter and make Splitwise much more usable, while still allowing us to still keep track of outstanding debts.

    Thanks for considering this!

We now hide groups/friends that have been settled up for more than 40 days on all three platforms. We also hide older expenses behind a click whenever a group or friendship has completely settled up.

  4. "Shared Expense"

Rather than separating bills only by who "paid" it would be helpful to also have a function that was titles a "shared expense" where it's more of the idea of pooling the money rather than paying back an individual. It's mostly just a matter of wording that would help for clarification in certain situations. Thank you :)

  5. Payment to person NOT currently owed money

With the app, unlike the website, one cannot currently record a payment to someone where that person is not currently owed money. As I like to pay individuals in advance, hoping this is a quirk easily fixed. Thanks!

Update: this is now possible on all platforms. For groups, you just click on settle up and scroll down for more options. To do a custom settle up between friends, you need to go to the non-group expenses entry in the group list and settle up from there.

Thanks for the feedback! We can probably make this possible at some point, though I’m not sure when it’ll get added to the schedule.

  6. Expenses are getting added twice

This is a serious issue which I found more than 3 times. After adding expenses it's got added 2 times. Hope you will look in to it.

  7. Better Group Creation

Me and my friends are organizing a trip via a facebook group. None of them have splitwise accounts, nor do I know all of their emails. It would be great if I could create a group, and just post a link to it asking them to join it by clicking the link.

You MISREAD my previous post on http://feedback.splitwise.com/forums/162446-general/suggestions/5070691-add-hkd-to-currency-list?tracking_code=b85ea02d3c247fa0793b2133bb873df0. I said:

Hey Samuel – sorry for misreading your original post! I’m afraid I’m still unable to recreate your problem. HKD appears as expected for me when adding an expense on both web and mobile. It should be selected by default if HKD is your default currency, or you should be able to select it by clicking/tapping on the currency symbol in the “Add bill” form and choosing “HKD”.

If you’re still having issues, it’s possible this is a bug – get in touch with us at support@splitwise.com and we’d be happy to help further.

  9. Add HKD to currency list

Hi, I was able to set HKD as my default currency in Account Settings, but HKD is not on the list of currencies when I input the expense item. Please rectify this. I urgently need this because I'm going on a group trip in 2 days. Thanks!

Sorry for the trouble! HKD is actually already in our list of currencies – you should be able to select it from your account settings page, about a third of the way down the list. Let us know if you have any more issues!

  10. My share & expenses

The "view printable summary" in a group link shows some numbers which IMO are pretty useless.
    What anyone expects is:
    1) How much is my share?
    2) How much money did I pay?
These two important questions are not answered at all by the numbers from the summary. Not only are they not answered but they cannot even be derived from the numbers in the summary rendering it useless.

Either the group or the summary should display these two parameters. As an example of what I expect and would be most convenient to all, check this image:

You can view the total you paid for and your share of expenses in groups in our mobile apps.

On iOS, tap ‘Totals’ in the horizontal menu.

On Android, tap the menu icon in the upper right corner and then tap ‘View group totals’

  11. add a lightweight 'payment received' ticky

I trust my housemates to pay their share of the bills, but I also like to verify those payments. It would be lovely if payments came with a 'payment received' ticky where I can record that I've confrmed payment (and functionality to allow me to show only confirmed/unconfirmed payments).

I know that Splitwise used to have a confirmation step and it confused people, and that's definitely not what I'm asking. Instead I'm asking for an optional/advanced feature, and one that's possibly only visible to the receiver.

As someone who regularly reconciles their bank statements, the fact that Splitwise doesn't let…

I don't get why my friend can say he paid me when he didn't. You guys should consider tying this with Paypal

    Hey Hal,

We are integrated with PayPal across all 3 platforms (web, iPhone and Android) and we are integrated with Venmo on iPhone. The ‘record cash payment’ option is for people who settle debts with cash, checks, etc.

If you are not seeing the PayPal option from a mobile app, please make sure that you’re using the latest version (we’ve only had PayPal for Android since yesterday morning). If that doesn’t fix your issue please email us at support@splitwise.com

  14. Add a PIN based authentication during Mobile App launch

My cellphone is within reach to a lot of people and I hate using screen lock. So if the splitwise app is protected with some simple authentication, it would make me feel my account is more secure.

I understand that not everyone would want this extra step, so it could be optional.

The concern arises from the fact that splitwise directly deals with money and it begs to be a more secure platform.

  15. Expandable/Hideable item-specific comment section

This mock up demonstrates how I would like a note/comment section to work:
    http://i.imgur.com/IezP7Dj.png

I think a lot of people want this feature and I think this is an elegant way to implement it.

Previous reason for declining comments: "We won’t be adding comments inline on the listing page. We do display an icon on the expense if there is a note for it. the main reason is that if we add this style of commenting, we wind up with too much clutter on the main UI for something that we do handle reasonably well already."

    If the comments expand/hide…

  17. No suggestion, just praise.

Thank you. This software is awesome. I recently moved in with my girlfriend and we've been struggling to keep track of accounts with a google doc, but this is 100x better. Keep up the good work.

  18. calculate individual's monthly(user defined) expense.

The current application shows only how much a person owes/owed. It would be better if one can tract his complete monthly expense. If you need extra help, you can contact me. I am a software engineer and I would be glad to help you.

  20. Edit Friend Details

The ability to edit things like the names of friends would be nice to have. When you invite a friend via email, his email address sometimes becomes his displayed name and then changing it is not possible.

A friend’s name can be edited as long as your friend hasn’t yet logged in. On the web: click the friend in the left-hand sidebar, then click the gear/settings icon at the top of the right-hand column, and then choose “Edit friend info”. On the iPhone: tap on a friend, then tap the balance at the top of the screen, then hit the “Edit this friend” button. (We’ll be bringing this feature to Android as well in the very near future.)

Please note that once a friend has logged in, you can no longer change their info – that person has claimed their account, and they are now the only person who can update their name, email, etc.
