Are you looking for an item-by-item list, or a summary by category? If you’re looking for the latter, there’s a category breakdown chart you can use on our website – click the “Trends” button at the top of the right-hand sidebar, then click “view full charts” at the bottom of the sidebar. I’ll pass on the suggestion for a way to break things down by category. Hopefully we can add these features to our mobile apps in future updates!

Thanks for the suggestions! We’d definitely like to make some further improvements to our iPhone app, and I’ll pass on your category recommendations as well.
P.S. There’s already an option for “Sports” under “Entertainment”, just so you know :) Hope that helps!

Interesting idea – I’ll pass it on at our next team meeting!
In the meantime, you can already view monthly category summaries on the web by going to a friend/group/all expenses and clicking the “Trends” button at the top of the right-hand column. Then click the “view full charts” link at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar.
Alternately, you could try exporting your expenses with any friend or group to a spreadsheet, and then building charts from that.

This is a neat idea! We have “reoccurring bills” but I can see how “duplicate this specific bill once, now” would be a useful functionality to add. We will consider this as we continue to improve Splitwise. Regards

We aren’t planing to add support for custom categories in the near future. We’re considering better ways to allow people to sort expenses into categories other than the ones we’ve provided. In the meantime, if there are particular important categories you feel are missing, feel free to email us with a suggestion at support@splitwise.com.

Hi
First of all,I want to say that I'm loving the app! I recently switched from Abcba to Splitwise. This app has better layout, compatibility, features and webintegration. But I'm missing 1 feature: overview list by categorys in the app.
So I would like to see an overview of total expenses for a categoey and when I tap on the category than I can see all the expenses within this category.
This gives me a better overview of like: how much I spend on groceries, or how much I spent on car expenses or hobby's.
