add a calendar screen to check expenses in past 2. Add expenses to google calendar
12 votesOoh, interesting suggestion! This isn’t on our roadmap right now, but I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements for future updates.

import from CSV take 2
I read through your reasoning on why you don't want to tackle supporting import from CSV. There is no standard, and creating one can be messy, particularly with the details you mentioned. However, the cases, if limited to a two-way split are simple to start and would cover that scenario.
I would expect to download a sample CSV (or my own db from your website), append to it exactly as it is, and reupload it to your parser. If a case isn't covered a quick "we don't understand this line please run us through it can feed back into a…
64 votesThanks for the detailed thoughts! Building an importer is definitely possible, but it just hasn’t been a high enough priority for us yet – only a handful of people have asked for it, and we’re a tiny team (2 developers), so other updates end up taking precedence. We might get to it someday, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon, unfortunately.
If you’re feeling brave though (and you’re willing to ignore XKCD’s advice), we do have an API you could use for importing! Docs are here: http://dev.splitwise.com. Maybe someone will put a nice CSV import program up on GitHub for the power users :)

Bug Report: % split yields error when lowering expense amount
If you enter a % split, it's stored as $ values and throws an error when you subsequently reduce the total cost.
Steps to reproduce:
-add a bill of > $1
-set it to a percentage split
-confirm/accept the bill
-edit the bill and attempt to lower the price to $1
-observe that an error dialog appears complaining that the new price is less than your share of the bill0 votesWe are aware of this issue, and it is on our TODO list for the near future.

Make provision for adding a digital version of the bill at the time of payment of the bill directly from the POS
Every time we add bills and expenses, they are generally not for one or two items but a whole lot of things. Like when you go shopping, or a fun weekend, or even groceries. We have to calculate the whole bill manually and then add them bill-by-bill or item-by-item.
Rather than having to keep all the bills or depending on our short-term memory we could just ask the cashier at the POS to add it to our account so that we would get a digital bill. Then we could split each item easily. Imagine recalling the tab at a bar…
4 votesThanks for the suggestion! This would definitely be super-useful – we’ve thought about it before, though it’s not actually on our road map yet. Hopefully it’s something we can work on a bit further down the line. In the meantime, apologies for the inconvenience!

Add location to expense
It would be better if we add location of where the expense is made and filter the expense then it would be more easier..
45 votesHey Krishna – thanks for the suggestion! We’ve thought a bit about location data before, and it’s something that might show up in a future version of the app. Until then, apologies for any inconvenience!

to add support for 'fictional' users
It would be cool to create groups with persons (or instances) who don't have a splitwise account. Just to keep track of it youselfs.
for example.
I keep my lunchtickets and fuel-tickets for my company en give them to them at the end of the month. but it takes my company some time to settle up the money. It would be cool to list those expenses and enter when the company payed me. So i can see how many money the company still owns me. But the company shall not have a splitwise account. It is just a 'group' for…9 votesWe’re pretty hesitant to add fake people to Splitwise as it’s caused us a lot of trouble in the past, but this use case seems worth looking at.

Add SMS text notifications
Some people in my groups don't have smart phones and don't check email too often. A good solution to missed notifications would be to send a SMS text message to their phone number.
35 votesThanks for the suggestion! I don’t think we’re likely to add SMS notifications in the near future, but I can see how they’d be useful for certain groups of people. I’ll mention this at our next planning meeting.

Add an option to select first day of week
Add an option under profile to select the first day of the week: Monday or Sunday.
This option is then taken into account when showing the calendar / date selector.5 votesHi there,
Thanks for the suggestion! We always appreciate ideas to make Splitwise better. Having support for a different first day of the week makes complete sense, and is most definitely an interesting suggestion.

Allow searching of categories
Would be helpful to have the option of searching categories from the list when adding a new expense.
20 votesThanks for the suggestion – I can definitely see how this’d be useful for some people. Just out of curiosity, do you use our iPhone app, our Android app, or our website? I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements for the future.

make it easier to explain splitwise to new users
I have introduced several groups to splitwise. Each time, I have to write an email explaining that people should enter their expenses, split them accordingly, wait until everyone has entered their expenses, and expect to pay only 1-2 people. Each time, someone gets it wrong, especially the final thing. I wish there were a "tell your friends its time to settle up" button with a summary of what to do and who to pay.
1 voteWe’d definitely like to improve the way we explain Splitwise to new users, especially new users who are invited by other people – right now, we just sort of throw them in without much explanation. Hopefully in the future we can add a better welcome that gives a good overview of how everything works.

Allow linkage to Chase Quickpay
Chase quickpay is a quick method of payment that is offered by Chase bank and something I use with a lot of people. Would be great to see it added to the payment options instead of just paypal and Venmo. Thanks! Loving Splitwise! Thanks for making life as a student easier between my friends and I - no more sending and forgetting Excel spreadsheets!
37 votesThanks for your suggestion and for your kind words about Splitwise.
We will considering adding Chase Quickpay integration if the idea gets popular amongst our user base, and if Chase begins providing a free API for Quickpay (that’s the tech thing we’d need to do the integration).
In the meanwhile, sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for using Splitwise!

Category for courses or learning, and Books inside Entertainment
As custom category edition is not planned in the near future, I find that a category for courses o learning in general should be added, as I would like to know what ammount of my money is spent in my formation.
Besides this, a Books subcategory inside Entertainment should be considered.
Thanks in advance.
1 voteThanks for the suggestions! Next time we revise our categories, I’ll definitely pass on “Books” and “Education” as two possible suggestions :)

Email notification for settlement
Hello Team,
First of all I would like to thank for developing this wonderful app. I am using this app since 2012. I would like to give you a suggestion. While sending an email reminder to person in grp, and when I am not involved in settlement then in that email, person who has to pay should be "To" and person who has to receive can be in "CC". So that both person will have end-to-end communication.
Right now only person who is sending reminder is in CC and perosn who has to pay is in To. So include the…
5 votesThanks for your suggestion! That makes sense. I
will make sure this gets brought up next time we talk about improvements to reminders. -
link with walmart/shaws/grocery
Students use splitwise a lot. In their busy schedule its really difficult for them to manually enter bills after group purchases. You can create a system where people can just give in their splitwise id at checkout and they will have the bill available on their app and may be have the items tabulated with option to select who were involved in this product. This involves a lot of work but has a lot of scope. Students might even favor shopping at places that have splitwise support for their groceries. All the data you get about which products people prefer.
4 votesThanks for the suggestion! We’ve thought about a few things like this before – it’s definitely complicated, but it would certainly save our users from manual data entry.

please show total amount in group expenses
While providin printable summary, the total group expenses should be given in it. man u save a hefty amount of our time. thank you great job man. luv u
18 votesThanks for the suggestion! I’ll pass this on – I know we already include totals for how much each individual person paid/owed, so it would make sense to include the total of all expenses, too :)

Export notes as well
When exporting to a spreadsheet, it would be awesome if all the information related to transaction is also saved as an excel file (rather than CSV). Currently notes and attached images are not exported.
Saving as an excel file, will give more flexibility to add links to images saved along with a transaction.
38 votesThanks for the suggestion! I can see how notes and attachments would be useful, though we’d have to think a bit about how exactly to structure the spreadsheet (we probably wouldn’t want just one “notes” column, or each cell might have a huge amount of text). I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements for the next time we’re working on printouts and exports.

Integration with Amazon Dash buttons?
My roommate and I both use items that are purchased through my Amazon Prime Dash buttons, it would be nice not to have to keep track of how many times they've been pressed and auto load into splitwise!
4 votesInteresting idea! Not aware of any resources that would be easy to do this integration with but we are always looking for ways to cut down data entry.
Best,

Provide a Document Center
I am planning on using Split Wise as a hub for running our apartment.
It would be nice to have a small communal document area to store some of our agreements. As an example, I would like to upload a roommate agreement that was signed by all of the roommates.
1 voteThanks for the suggestion! I think it’s unlikely that we’ll do this – we really want to focus on just the expense sharing problem. If we get a lot of votes here, we’ll reconsider this.

Allow Deposits to be maintained.
Eg. If A and B paid 2500 and 1500 for Deposit (of anything) and B takes back the entire 4000, Then B owes A - 2500.
8 votesThanks for the suggestion! I definitely see how this would be useful for apartments and rentals, where deposits can be a pain to figure out.

Bill Share Calculator
Hi guys,
First things first - I love your app/wesbite. It has saved me so much time (and a few disagreements). It's fabulous!
I saw you have a caluclator for fairly calcuating rent. I thought you could add a cacultator that allows you to fairly divvy up bills - I'm currently trying to figure out how much my housemate owes on a bill as she moved in partway during the billing period. I can figure it out by myself, but it would be a lot easier if there was an app or online calculator to do that for me!!
Thanks…
7 votesThanks for the suggestion! You might want to check out our travel calculator (https://secure.splitwise.com/calculators/travel) – it only goes up to 14 days, unfortunately, but it’s designed to handle cases where some people are only around for some parts of the month. You could use it as a rough guidelines for your bills (for example, if the new housemate was only around for 1/5th of the month, treat it like a 5-day vacation where he/she was only present for 1 day). Hope that helps!
