Save expenses to later submission
I would like to have an option save the expenses somewhere so that I can submit it at a later time. Sometimes i don't want to submit bills in a hurry but want to document it so i don't forget.Thanks.
Thanks. I hear you. We’re hesitant to create a ‘staging site’ for bills because we think that may cause a lot of confusion — you’d have to remember which bills you had actually added versus ones you’d only partially added. You’d have to remember to revisit the app to actually submit expenses. We’re aware of the need and will keep thinking through how to best let you store info without necessarily pinging your friends. Cheers!

I would like to cast a strong vote for this idea as well (although I seem to be blocked from actually doing so - is it because the Idea is already Under Review?) I would definitely use this feature a lot, as it is very common I want to add something to Splitwise so that I remember to add the final amount and other details later, but don't care to do that in the moment of the transaction. One scenario where this would be especially helpful is when traveling abroad and paying for things with my credit card. I'd rather make a note that I paid for a dinner or other expense, and later input the amount based on the actual USD cost that hits my credit card statement. It's impossible to know exactly what this will be in the moment, and there's not much point to tracking the foreign currency cost that could be known at the time because ultimately it's only the amount that hits my card that really matters as a source of truth. In general I also usually don't care to log expenses like dinner (even in the US) in the moment with all the details and would prefer to make a quick note of it with the amount "to be added". Sometimes this is because I don't leave with a receipt of what I tipped, and prefer to use the final tip amount that appears on my card bill.
Without this feature and because of how I use your product, I end up spending a lot of time reviewing my credit card statements every month or two to make sure I didn't "miss" any household expenses. It's also common that in the midst of a group trip, you simply want to make a note of having picked up an expense and deal with the details later.
Also, I don't really think the concerns Zoe raised in this reply are sufficient reasons not to move forward with this feature - you could simply block any "settle up" until all amounts are entered, and that could be shown clearly in the product. I don't see an issue with "having to remember to revisit the app to actually submit expenses" - for people that use this feature, that would be the whole point.
Please consider adding this! Happy to talk with the team for user research as well if interested. -

Often times the transaction is in the process for days or for weeks eg. if a crate of beers is bought by a person for suppose 3 people, he wants to add the bill when the crate is finished (which could take even 2 weeks) but he has to maintain a ledger of who had how many beers and the amount that will be split, accordingly. So maybe there could be a pending section for keeping tabs on the number of beers (atomicity will ensure anyone can update the entry) and move the pending to complete when the crate is finished.
I don't want to mix the pending with complete transaction because it would cause confusion.

I'd like to enter an expense name but not an amount, as a reminder to fill in the amount when the charge comes through or a reminder for the person who paid it to enter it. I'd rather not put in dummy amounts ($999 or something like it) as reminders.

Very annoying. We went for food, instantly scanned the receipt, but then had to leave without splitting the cost.
Back home, the app was restarted and there was nothing. No entry, no scan, nothing.
Please keep the added entry somewhere, even if it was not saved or fully filled, to pick up the edit later.

Sometimes I need to post an estimated expense so everyone has an Idea of the cost, but also knows that it's not exact yet. If people don't realize things haven't been reconciled or completed they my pay an incorrect amount prematurely.
Example: Goup goes to Dinner, One person pays but hasn't had the time to brake out the individual cost. "Estimated" can be a soft total and spread equally. "Expense Complete" lets everyone know it should be correct.
Please add and "Estimated" feature which is in a different color to notify the group it is an open item. as well as a "Trip Complete" or "Month Closed out" so everyone knows the calculations are complete for the trip.

there should be a "to review" flag/star or any other icon, if i want to review those (like a draft mode work around) or if me or someone want to talk about this transaction

i want this feature too, something i make grocery purchase for 3 people each with there own share. i don't have time to calculate the axact amoutn for each personne.
So the work around i did, is :
add a bill, 0.01$ as amount, add title, input picture, add comment. That it. not perfect but when a review the bill a know there work to do on that one
and yeah pin the post too could be a perfect add -

Hi, sometimes I would like to add a bill but I don't know how to split it. So it would be perfect if I could add bills to be shared later. It could be shown on the top of the main page, like a pinned post.
For example, let's say I bought $100 grocery for a group of 5. I want to add it as to be shared later. One day later let's say 3 friends eat $20 worth meal. I want to share only $20 and keep the remaining $80 as to be shared later.
Hope it's clear for you.

Use case: as a group, we enter the receipt as split share at initial creation but we haven’t had time to calculate the actual balance until a later date. For example, we pay grocery on one bill but not everyone has equal shares or items in it. We use the comments to denote it but cannot see it at the top level expenses.

We could be able to put an expense in a status (exemple : "undefined"), and define the cost and split between persons later, to avoid forgetting it.
For now, I put the expense with "0.01 $" so I can find it later, but I then risk to let it with this value. -

Hello Team,
Whenever we go out and split the expense. There is no functionality to draft a expense and publish it later. As of now whenever we split any expense its directly published.
Ex - If we go on Monday and split the expense. There should be a functionality to split the expenses and keep it on draft state. User should have functionality to publish the expense at a frequency (Daily, weekly or biweekly). Users are generally not comfortable to enter the expenses immediately, as it stereotypes the user entering the expenses.

There should be option add money and document the expenses.
Split of the expenses can happen later as sometime we will have last minute addition / deletion and should have flexibility to make those changes when additional group members get added at later point of time!

Allow saving draft expense (without specifying all amounts for every participant is specified). Putting all amounts for an expense may not be possible at the time of initial creation (e.g. bill has many items).
