My partner and I use Splitwise and would both see th value in using Splitwise Pro, but we think it is a little unfeasible to spend $60-80 on the product for the same features. Currently I am the only one that has it and if we want to look in to our spending in depth we have to use my phone instead of what is currently available.
Would it be possible to have a family account set up, where we can share pro? Like Google Play Family, where you pay $5 extra to add people to your app accounts.31 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! Makes sense, I’ll leave this open for further voting for now.
Ability to create tags for certain expenses, e.g "Moving costs", "Pets", "Reimbursable", "Sunday trip" when between two people especially30 votes
While we aren’t actively planning to implement tags currently, there are some things that you could essentially use as tags: we have a category for every expense such as transportation – bus, taxi or utilities – gas, power.
You can also create separate group if you want to have expenses for lets say a trip, an apartment or a club to be separate from regular expenses.
Please provide an option to filter out expenses/payments by user , similar to the option of hide expenses not involving me.30 votes
I’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, you may be able to use “Export as spreadsheet” to accomplish some of this. You can export a spreadsheet from our website by going to a group or friend, then clicking the settings icon in the upper right and choosing “Export”. Hope that helps!
Like if someone pays me then it must be a push notification. For every notification i am the one who should choose what type of msg i get bt in most push notification is bot an option.30 votes
Push notifications for the Friends and Groups notifications and Expense notifications makes sense.
This is something we plan on doing in the future. I’m sorry about any inconvenience it has caused you!
It would be nice to be able to view balances by specific month (or other time period). My partner and I settle expenses on a monthly basis, but sometimes we add expenses for the current month before the previous month's balance has been settled. Once those expenses are added, it is it difficult to remember what the previous month's balance was.30 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! Our mobile apps don’t really support this yet, but we do have something like this on our website – just log in, go to a particular friend or group, and click the “view printable summary” link at the top of each month’s bills. You’ll get a summary that includes balances at the beginning and end of the month, as well as net change for the month.
You venmo integration is great, but you currently cannot request money and create a Venmo charge. This would help remind people to settle debts. You've already integrated with the Venmo API, and according to their documentation, all you need to do is put a negative amount in the request to create a charge -- this should be easy (see: https://developer.venmo.com/docs/payments).29 votes
Great idea, and thanks for the citation. We’re definitely interested in improving our Venmo integration in time, and this would be a good way to do so.
Allow user to move items so that he can rearrange them in a chronological order for that day.
For Ex. I might add the dinner expenditure first, and then the breakfast expenditure, but would want the breakfast to appear before the dinner in the reports and charts. Being able to re-arrange would help.
If re-arranging is a difficult to achieve, then we can get the same done by asking user to enter time (optional) for the expenditure.29 votes
I really like this idea, and can see why people would want it (including myself who needs to organize everything obsessively by time). We’ve talked about doing this and think it’s a good addition, but it will be a little bit before we can get it in there.
a calendar feature that helps a home group keep track of who gets paid when, and when bills are due. To help figure out who will actually pay the bill, and then be owed by the rest of the group.28 votes
Thanks Randy! Have you tried using the ‘recurring bill’ feature? Interested to know whether that meets this need, or whether you think we need a calendar function on top of it. Thanks for using Splitwise and writing in!
please add a alexa skill for Splitwise, which is will be one of the most advanced feature from any expense manging applications28 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll leave this open for further voting for now :)
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this’d be useful – I’ll add it to our list of possible features for the future :)
Provide the option to select individual members, multiple members, specific expense types (grogeries, bills, payments, ect).
Also, alowing for collapse/expand of individual months in the list would be a nice feature to clean things up.28 votes
This is an idea that I think would be a great addition to the site. I’m not sure when we could fit it in our schedule, but it’s something I think would be a useful way to organize expenses.
Why you are planning to add square cash as an payment option, why you are using third party tools. Instead, do you have any future strategy to implement your own payment option, somewhat exactly as square cash. By this, people will trust in your own application more than someone else. For example, If I have to give some money to my friend, than either I give cash or will send money online by bank transfer or square cash. In either option I have to go and create a transaction in split wise and when my friend give it back than I again have to record that transaction. This feature will create your application more smooth and easy and it will be easy for us to see Transaction automatically.

Sorry for the trouble! It’d definitely be interesting to transfer money directly through Splitwise (without using PayPal/Venmo/Square Cash/etc). We haven’t built that feature so far because there are a lot of regulations around transferring money, and we’d need to do a lot of technical and legal work, but it’s on our list of possible things to do in the future.
It would be nice to be able to manage recurring payments on mobile. There is currently no indication of which payments are recurring unless you happen to remember which ones they are, and you open them up to edit. Even if there had to be a separate view where you could edit/remove recurring payments.27 votes
Thanks for the feedback! This is something we’re currently looking into doing. I’m not sure when it will be available, so thank you for your patience!
may be useful to have a setting whereby you can change the format of the numbers, e.g. decimals, show "1000" as "1,000" etc. thanks27 votes
Great idea, leaving it under review since we tend to be pretty conservative about adding new settings. Thanks for submitting!
We do plan to integrate more payment methods beyond paypal, but will be doing it based on how many votes it gets on the forum here.
You can add the payment options and allow transfer of money to other accounts , like kind of link accounts with splitwise and transfer directly . Something of that sort which is for sure safe and secure27 votes
We don’t currently have plans to transfer money directly through Splitwise. We do integrate with PayPal and Venmo in the US, and we just integrated with Paytm for our Indian users, these allow you to make transfers to other users if you’ve connected with your bank account. We hope to continue to integrate with other payment providers in the future!
As of now, scanning receipt for making an itemized bill opens the camera app. I want to be able to choose (one or more) image files from gallery (or other places) because I don't have the receipt to take a picture now but had already taken a picture before27 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I’m sorry that our current receipt scanner doesn’t support this. I’ll leave this open for now.
This is a great web app. I was thinking, as the users who are using this app for everyday expenses management, their expense description remains same or similar. So, if you can store those descriptions and as user starts typing, you can show a probable list to select from their earlier descriptions. It will be more user friendly as then user doesn't need to type the same thing over and over again everyday or every week.27 votes
I can definitely see how that would be useful! We’ve got a bunch of features already on our to-do list, but I’ll pass on the suggestion at our next team meeting and see if we want to add that sometime soon.
If I want to enter a transaction, I want to do this fast, so spent the least possible amount of time on searching and including the right person. The Android app shows all my phonebook contacts, which is not convienient if I just quickly want to add a transaction.
Maybe a separate "import phonebook contacts" button can be made available26 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how this would be useful – a lot of people do use the auto-loaded contacts, but I can imagine that being not helpful for some people.
- Don't see your idea?
