Show contacts that have a balance with a different color.
Why not show the little person icon next to the friends name with a color? Red if you owe them, Green if they owe you? Sometimes you want so see who owe you money individually and I have to go through each contact to see if they owe me or not.
4 votesWe actually tested this at one point and thought that it ended up looking too distracting, but it might be worth reconsidering. I’ll pass on a note about this. In the meantime, you can always get a list of everyone who you have a balance with from the Dashboard screen. Apologies for any inconvenience!

Managing recurring expenses
Our monthly electricity bill went up by a couple of euros, so I needed to change the recurring expense that I had setup for this. Although this is possible the process is a bit confusing. I'd suggest providing an overview of scheduled recurring expenses, separate from the list of expenses that have already been created as a result from these schedules, which is what I was looking for because I didn't really want to touch any previous expenses.
359 votesWe agree that managing recurring bills could be better. Currently, the way to edit recurring bills is to change the most recent copy and that will change ones that follow. It will not affect the past expenses.
We’re considering how to improve this, and will leave this under review for now. -
Color Coding of Paid column.
A nice to have would be:
The column that shows who paid could use a different color for each person who pays. For instance I have Zac, Kyle, and Myself (Erza) in my group, my color would be black. Kyle could be blue and Zac could purple. This would allow me to look at glance who paid more often. I do like the the orange and green column that shows how much was lent/borrowed. Icing on the cake would be having the ability to assign each group member a color.2 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! I know in the past we’ve considered additional things to indicate who paid – small user icons, for instance. (I believe we decided against that in order to keep the interface cleaner and less cluttered.) I’ll add this to our list of possible ideas and see what the rest of the team thinks.

Import Excel format Bank Statement (BoFA)
Directly Import the bank statement to add bill for whole month and show an option of each line item to be tagged (like facebook tagging) under any group or person
12 votesInteresting! I know we’re generally cautious about building importers (they can be a lot of work to develop, and they generally don’t get much use), but I’ll pass on this suggestion at our next meeting and see what the team thinks.

there should be individual settle button in Dashboard.
there should be a settle button against individual line items in dashboard. now i can see that who owe me or i owe who what. but i have to go to individual group/friend to settle up that amount. it'll be really good to have a individual settle button beside the line item say under a friend's name "you owe 450 for XXX".
Thx14 votesI’ll pass on this suggestion! In the meantime, you should be able to settle up from the dashboard by clicking the green “Settle up” button above the list of balances, choosing a payment method, and then choosing the person you wish to pay back. Splitwise should automatically fill in the total amount that you owe that person. I hope that helps somewhat for now!

Chart preparation
I had this wonderful idea regarding improvement of splitwise. I feel splitwise app should also have a built-in function that will help the people using it to prepare their monthly expense after dividing it in group wise..that is for every group he should be able to see how much did he spend with respect to individual group! How does this sound ?? I think its cool and boost the popularity because everyone needs to account for their expense and what better way to do it when splitwise will help them!!
2 votesHey Pujan, thanks for the suggestion! We definitely want to get better at things like this.
Have you seen the monthly charts section on our website? If you open a group, then click the “Trends” button at the top of the right-hand column, and then click the “View full charts” link, you should be able to see all of your own spending for the group that month, split into individual categories. It’s not perfect, but it may help you until we find time to work on some better chart features :)

New Group
when you add a new group, you should have the option of carrying over balances for those members into the group.
1 voteInteresting – I can see how this would be useful in certain situations. I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements and mention it at our next team meeting.

View detailed "who owes who" in printable summary.
Sometimes (if someone doesn't use splitwise) you should at least mail/copy/give them all information about the calculation so it would be great to provide the simplified amounts of the entire group like displayed in the web (view full details) and app (in balances).
This could also be helpful in the mail reminders optionally.
7 votesThanks for the suggestion! I can definitely see why that would be useful :) I’ll pass on your suggestion at our next team meeting, and see if we can add it to our to-do list.

Allow us to enter payees (like electric company or gas company) to which we pay bills, instead of just individual bills.
I pay three primary bills a month; gas, electric, and internet. If I were able to look at these companies as a "payee" such as Consumers Energy, it would be super nice. Then, if you were to add the functionality of being able to look at your "history" with that payee, average monthly expense, and maybe some suggestions on saving for bills, it would be super helpful.
1 voteWe’re working on something a little different that will solve this issue.

Get Whitelisted by AdBlockPlus
Your advertising isn't obtrusive or annoying, and your service is super useful. You should see about getting whitelisted by AdBlockPlus because you completely deserve to get paid.
1 voteThanks for pointing this out! I didn’t realize this was possible.

Allow Custom Labels
Been using your app for a while now, it's pretty sweet!
Thought it might be cool to be able to add my own custom labels to bills. Similar to the 'Recurring' labels that automatically gets added to bills. That way I would be able to mark bills as 'Paid' or add other useful information that is relevant to my room mates and should be visible at a glance.
4 votesInteresting – I can see how this would be useful. I’ll add it to our list of possible future updates. For the time being, you could try using the “Notes” field to accomplish something similar, though obviously it’s a bit more buried (you’d need to click on each expense to view its “labels”).

Entire and monthly export option
There should be an option to export the entire transactions of an account for a particular month.
15 votesThanks for the suggestion – definitely makes sense. We hope to get around to this in the not-too-distant future.

Taxable items in itemized view
Hi,
Hey guys... love the work you are doing..
It would be great if you could add a checkbox in the itemized bill view to select items that are taxable or not. It generally happens when we do shopping for groceries in walmart or target, taxes are not applicable on many items and currently we have to manually calculate the tax with every applicable item; defeating the purpose of the tax field at the bottom.14 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! We’d definitely like to make improvements to itemized billing at some point in the future.

add the ability to link to bank accounts
we did this with paydivvy. its the one thing that separated them from everyone else. now that paydivvy is being acquired we need a new service. hopefully connecting bank accounts is part of your plan already! makes it a lot easier to just press "pay" rather than cutting a check each time
32 votesWe’d definitely like to do this! It’s unlikely to happen any time in the next few months (it takes a lot of work to properly and securely integrate with banks), but hopefully it’s something we can consider in the future.

add keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts are a great way for power users to take full advantage of the web app, and would be especially helpful when batch adding many bills at the same time (eg multiple receipts). Check out the javascript library mousetrap for a quick and easy way to add them.
22 votesInteresting – definitely a good thought. I’ll bring this up at our next team meeting. It probably won’t be a high priority, but it might catch somebody’s interest :)

Not include payments in the expense summary
In the "charts" section, payments get included under "your share". I understand that you want to do the "you paid - your share = you are owed", but the result is that it's harder for me to see exactly how much my share of the trip actually was.
26 votesAnother good idea George! In fairness, it’s not actually included in the pie chart, just the table of expenses, but I hear what you are saying. If you want to see the trip as what you actually “spent” independent of the payments moving money around, it would be the sum of the “Your share” column minus the payments.
We’ll definitely discuss this issue more as we revisit the charts / why I owe what I owe interface. Thanks again!

enable a user that he can export a list of expenses as PDF
As a user I want to be able to export my expenses (all expenses, only expenses with a certain person or [especially] expenses from one trip) as a PDF file so that I can use this PDF as base for settling up with others (especially after a trip).
For me as a user this really helps me to have a kind of "proof" that someone ows me money. Especially for trips where I suggest friends to use splitwise the first time, they might not be fully convinved yet and want to calculate on their own if the costs on splitwise…8 votesMakes sense! We actually have an export-to-spreadsheet for individual friends and groups already (on web only). If you click the settings/gear icon at the top of the right-hand column, you should see an option to “Export as spreadsheet”.
We’d definitely like to add a better, more human-readable version in the future, either as a PDF or just a printable webpage. Right now we’re more focused on Android and a few other things, but hopefully we’ll get around to it before too long!

Automatic mail trigger for settlement
Automatic mail should be trigger to me inorder remain me for settlement. the remainder mail can be monthly or weekly or biweekly based on the setup done by the user
5 votesBy default, Splitwise sends a monthly summary email to all users, telling them about the expenses that have been added this month and reminding them how much they owe. We’ve talked about adding an option to receive this email weekly, but I’m not sure if/when that will happen.

Allow fixed and percentage splitting
I used to use billmonk and it had an awesome feature which splitwise is lacking. It is the ability to split by fixed amount and percentage.
eg. Total bill: $38.50
UserA: $10.30
UserB: 1/2 of remainder
UserC: 1/2 of remainderOf course, if there were more users, it will be 1/3, 1/4 of remainder.
Would be great to see this feature implemented! Thanks :)
6 votesHi Anon,
Thanks for the cool suggestion. Yes, there have been a couple situations where I would have done this myself. Our new Plates app for iPhone can do this for dinner bills, and I’ve certainly found it useful there.
Cheers,

Should allow sending invites to friends of friends
When I see a transaction of which I am part of, I should be able to directly invite other people in that transaction.
It's probable that I want to add them to another bill but at the moment I have to invite them by their email id's (which might turn out to be different from the one they use for splitwise)
5 votesgood idea! we’re definitely looking for ways to make finding friends/inviting friends a lot simpler and more fun. thanks!
