Confirmation of settle up
Because anyone can post settle up so why dont we have a confirmation for the receiver when he receives the money
27 votesThanks for the feedback Romy! We are committed to keeping Splitwise ‘wiki-style’, meaning everyone can add/edit/delete things. It makes the app easier to use.
You can choose to get an email / push notification anytime someone adds a payment with you, and you can see a list of payments made (and other activity) in your ‘Recent Activity’ tab. I hope these measures will be enough to help you feel like you always know what’s going on.
Thanks for using Splitwise and best!

Backup
Provide an option to create a backup of all entries of all friends and groups at one click in spreadsheet form.
16 votesWe don’t plan to bring a more comprehensive CSV export for Splitwise. If you’re looking for a total backup of your account, Splitwise Pro (in your web account settings) has an option to download a complete copy of your data from Splitwise.

Settle up should have Accept or Reject
If someone settles up. It should allow you to accept before the payment is recorded as settled.
16 votesThanks for the suggestion – we’ve tried this approach in the past and found it didn’t work well. If you’d like to reject a payment by someone else, we’ve found it’s just as easy to delete it.

Splitwise actually used to work this way, but we got rid of the confirmation step because people complained that it was too much of a hassle.
Our in-between solution was email notifications. By default, you should get an email any time someone says they have paid you, and then if you wish you can double-check that they have actually given you money. (And if they haven’t, then you can delete the payment from Splitwise!) You can also see a full record of changes in your account at any time by going to the “Recent activity” screen.
Hope that makes sense! Let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Payment Reminder
You could add option for monthly payment reminder regarding outstanding amount .
10 votes -
Allow Generalized/Anonymous Reminders
It would be more tactful in some situations if Splitwise could send general reminders to those who haven't settled up after a few days have gone by. Or at least permit users to request the app to send a reminder of an outstanding balance without identifying the person who requested the reminder. For example:
"Hey username, don't forget to settle up your balances! You currently owe $###"
9 votesThanks for the suggestion! We do have a monthly summary that goes over balances with everyone and acts as an automated reminder. We also have pre-written reminders you can send to specific people if you want to ask them to settle up.
We don’t plan to add anonymous reminders. It’s a feature that would be very difficult to build in a way that would not be open to a lot of abuse. What we might add at some point is a more general whole group reminder where you can send a reminder to the entire group that there are balances that need to be settled up. Hopefully this will help make it easier to talk about settling up in a way that feels comfortable for everyone.

Add popular banking/wallet links
Redirect to banking/wallet When you hit settleup . Else THE BEST one would be have your own wallet.
8 votesThanks for the suggestion! We do look at adding new payment integrations when they’re popular and have support for our kind of use. I’m declining this because we have a number of open feature requests for specific payment integrations. Please go vote for or comment on the specific integrations you would be interested in using!

Allow payments through Amazon Payments which charges no credit card fees under 1000$ a month
payments.amazon.com will allow you to send up to 1000$ a month for free with credit card
7 votesNot so much declined as no longer possible: Amazon has disabled this service. http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/Saving-Money/2014/0916/Amazon-will-shut-down-WebPay-in-October

Expenses entered should be deleted/updated only by the person who entered it.
Person who created the expense only should be able to delete/update the expense. What if someone deletes the expense? I see a explanation saying "What if someone inserts an incorrect expense? Then everyone should be able to delete the incorrect expense", in this case the people involved in the expense can settle among themselves and request the person who inserted the expense to delete. But what if someone deletes a correct expense?
7 votesIf someone deletes a correct expense or a group, it is very easy to undelete in one tap from your recent activity feed. (If someone edits an expense incorrectly, the old version is referenced as a comment on the new expense.) We don’t believe administrative control is the best way to keep things friendly.

We’ve tried this in the past and found that it add significantly more stress and confusion in general because most people do not want to verify payments. So you wind up with most people just having a pile of “unverified” payments stressing them out.

intergate with dropbox or gdrive as backup
Provide a option where we can sign in with out dropbox/gdrive login password account and export the data to dropbox account.
Just just gives a option data backup, incase some thing goes wrong.
6 votesBuilding a Dropbox or Google Drive integration isn’t in our plans right now – we take care to backup our own servers, and we already allow you to download basic backups in .csv format from the website. We’d much rather focus on improving core features.
And don’t worry: if Splitwise ever shuts down, we’ll notify all our users and give ample time for you to export your information :)

Pay directly in-app
Integrate with PayPal or Apple pay
6 votesThanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, PayPal has not allowed us to offer our PayPal integration on mobile outside of the US. You can use PayPal with Splitwise from our website outside the US.
Apple pay doesn’t really support peer-to-peer payments at the moment, so it’s not something we can add to our app.
We are always looking at other payment providers.

Settling bills with multi group friends
When settling bills with a friend who is in multiple group, if exact amount is paid, the payment is divided and both the groups are settled. But if the amount paid is not exact, there should be some mechanism to settle the groups.
Suggestion
After paying a certain amount , the group with maximum due amount should be settled first followed by group with next highest due and so on.6 votesHi there,
I think I understand the suggestion, and thanks for your thoughts, but this solution would be very to build and even more complex to explain/design a UI for.
Settle All Balances is already very confusing even when a payment cancels everything exactly, so we’re not likely to double down on this approach. I apologize but I’m going to decline your request.
As a good work-around for now, I recommend you manually record one payment as two separate payments if you have strong preferences about how a partial payment should be allocated across groups.

Plates: Allow user to enter absolute tip amount
Currently we can add 0% or 10-25% billing amount as tip.
Allow tip amount to be entered by user (calculate and show % on basis of that)This is because when we are in restaurant we prefer rounding up total amount e.g. if total amount to pay is $17.35 we pay @20 but plates app allow us to log it as either $19.95 or $20.13
6 votesUnfortunately we don’t plan to add the ability to enter an absolute tip amount at this time. Apologies for the trouble!

Bring back the old way of entering the cost
The latest iOS update changed the way the cost field works. It used to add digits on as you typed, starting from cents. Now it's more like a standard text field where you put in a decimal point.
It sounds stupid, but this was one of the things I really enjoyed about this app compared with others (Google Wallet, PayPal), and I wished they'd do it your way, but now it's gone here too =(.
Even just a setting to change back would be great (though I get the UI simplification thing and this kinda cuts against that. But I…
5 votesSo sorry for the trouble, Andrew! :( I was actually the original proponent for the ATM-style amount field, but the more that we observed it in use, the more issues we found: new users frequently screwed up their first expense, international users often had trouble with it, some 3rd-party keyboards didn’t work well with it, etc. It was a tough decision (especially since all our existing users were already used to the old style), but ultimately I think it’ll help a lot of people.
I don’t think we’re likely to add it as a manual setting, unfortunately, but I’m really sorry for the loss! R.I.P. ATM-style cost field <3

Only Lent Person should be able to Settle Up from his account
When the bills are settled up, it should be done from the person who lent the money and not from the person who owes the money coz this may lead to fraud settlement
5 votesWe built Splitwise with the intention of keeping everyone on the same page with shared expenses, so anyone can add, edit, or record payments. There is a record of all of this kept in Recent Activity, so if there is a dispute, you can always reference the Recent Activity page. You also have the ability to delete the payment even if it was not recorded by you.

debt simplification on mobile app
I quite liked the Debt Simplification feature on the web app. Why can't we have a similar feature on the mobile app?
5 votesWe support debt simplification for groups in our mobile apps (it’s under “Group settings”), but we don’t plan to add more advanced debt simplification features to mobile right now. We’ve found that more advanced versions of “simplify debt” cause a lot of confusion for most people, and that those simplifications are often really difficult to follow, especially when you’re not the one who added the simplification in the first place. Sorry for the trouble!

Sharing grocery lists
Can we get a tab for sharing grocery lists? One tab that autoupdates to which all members of a household can contribute and check mark things off?
5 votesThis would be more appropriate for a grocery list app and wouldn’t be part of Splitwise’s core. As such we’d be unlikely to be able to dedicate the time necessary to create an entire sub app within Splitwise.

Order groups by most recent expense time
I want to have my most recently active group to appear on top in the groups tab on Android
5 votesKeeping groups in a stable position allows users to develop muscle memory. We think it would be confusing if users had to visually scan for the group they want each time they view the GROUPS tab. I hear your argument but it’s just a trade off we’ve made in the other direction. Sorry for any bother! Cheers.

Owe
The owes you and you owe is always confused with us. So please see if you can have this word replace with any good understandable word please
Thanks
5 votesThanks for the suggestion! We’ve spent a lot of time on the language in the app and this is the best set of words we’ve been able to come up with. It’s not something we plan to change, but I’d love to hear more about why it’s confusing.
