Option to track our monthly expenditure
At present, only the money owed is being tracked. It would be great if we could enter our personal expenditures too and also have the total expenditure number for each month.
Provide some comparison charts for each group, comparing the expenditure of current month with the previous etc.
Its highly probable that many of the users who use splitwise and similar sites to track the splitting, also use some other sites to track their own expenditures. So why not bring both together under one roof! :)
35 votesWe are currently in the process of evaluating different types of expenses and relationships with those expenses. Tracking personal expenses is something we’ve discussed and want, we just need to figure out where it fits on the schedule.

To add option to see yearly Expenses
I can see the expenses for individual months. If i want to see combined expenses for multiple months and yearly then there should be a option to see that expenses
1 voteRight now we do pretty much everything by month, but I can see how this would be useful. I’ll pass on the suggestion.

Make deleting groups simpler. Jeez it's hidden 4 clicks deep
You UX:
Navigate to the group you wish to delete
- At the top of the screen there is a green header area (the one that lists group balances, above the expense list)
- iOS: Tap the cog-shaped button on the top right of the screen (Settings button)
- Android: Tap the three vertical dot menu and select "Group Settings"
- Tap the "Delete this group" buttonMy UX:
Swipe left in the groups page to delete a group.2 votesThanks for the suggestion!
Sorry for any inconvenience, I’ll leave this open for further voting. -
Insert Paypal transaction ID as a note
After using Paypal to settle, you should automatically insert the Paypal transaction ID into the notes section of the payment.
1 voteSeems like a reasonable suggestion :) I’ll add it to our list of possible improvements.

Expense/Payment list filters
Provide the option to select individual members, multiple members, specific expense types (grogeries, bills, payments, ect).
Also, alowing for collapse/expand of individual months in the list would be a nice feature to clean things up.
28 votesThis is an idea that I think would be a great addition to the site. I’m not sure when we could fit it in our schedule, but it’s something I think would be a useful way to organize expenses.

Make a show math option.
I think there should be a way to see how the math works out for everyone, because me and my roommates get very confused every once in a while.
17 votesShowing the breakdown of the simplification is something that we are going to be doing in a future update. I agree that showing how we got the totals we did within the debt simplification would be extremely helpful to our users (and myself!)

Selecting members involved
I have a big list of people and selecting people involved in a bill is a pain in the butt to me, as I have to scroll down and painstakingly look at all the ones. I suggest that if you have several columns ( as in a grid with all the people) it will be so much easy to check the people involved and check my checks as-well.
5 votesWe’re going to be redoing the add expense stuff on the website soon and should be able to do this better with the new version.

rent splitting calculator enhancements
fairness calculator is great however if you could add the following that would be great:
parking bay (garage)
parking bay (outside)
option if room is outside the main house e.g. maid quarters
additional private room (if someone has a room plus e.g. an office or play room)
pets (people with pets should pay more)20 votesThanks for the suggestions! We may update our rent splitting calculator sometime soon – if we do, we’ll definitely take these things into consideration :)

An itemized bill that is not yet paid by anyone, but owed by a group separately
Monthly bills could require contribution from different people. In the days of electronic payments, it is possible that a group of people share a single bill, but pay their contribution separately. For instance, a small company's employees share a single cellular business plan, but pay their own portions personally.
So the entire total is not paid by one person, and other people in the group paying that person back. Rather, it is a shared bill being paid for by each person in the group, for their contribution. It would be good to use as a tool to track whether other…

A couple thoughts on itemized bills
In some states, not everything is subject to sales tax (for instance, in my state of Massachusetts, groceries and clothing are not taxed). This can make itemized bills that include both taxed and non-taxed items impossible to enter in one bill. A potential fix for this would be to include a check box that appears when there is something entered in the tax percent field so that the user can choose items that are not taxed. I think it would make sense to have it be an opt out system, in which every item starts with a check box indicating…
28 votesWe plan on tweaking itemized bills in the very near future. I think the quantity idea is a good one, along with the optional tax idea. We’ll keep these in mind when reworking the UI.

Splitting unequally based on Shares - use drop downs
When splitting bills, with unequal shares, under the option to add shares - make it a drop down for quick addition of the number of shares. Also, remember the last used settings of entering a bill, so that next time it defaults to that same setting.
16 votesI think the drop down UI would be a nice clean addition to the splitting expenses by shares option. I also agree with you on having it remember the previous expenses setting.
We may also use quick +/- buttons to change the number of shares.

temporary payments
Hi,
It would be nice to add temporary payments. Some insurance money we have to pay for 8 periodes. So it would be nice to give an end date for a payment.
sorry for my english, if you have any questions, let me know.
15 votesI really like this idea, having an end date to a recurring payment after a couple of weeks. I think it will be something we do, because we’ve already got the recurring payments in place and adding an end date doesn’t seem too hard (of course I’m not an engineer so I may eat those words when I bring it up).

Add expenses via email
It would be killer to be able to email a set email address (ie, bills@splitwise) with a bill name and attachment and have it automatically added as an expense and add the attachment.
83 votesUpdating since it’s been a while. We still really like this idea, unfortunately, there’s not a lot of momentum around it. We also haven’t figured out the best way to implement it yet. We’ll leave it open for now for further voting and comments.

"settle up" suggestion
I think it would be great if, at some point in the month, maybe the end, you could just click a button to settle everyone up - aka everyone goes back to zero.
Sometimes my roommates and I decided we're all settled up and don't want to go about putting who paid who and deal with change and what not.
It would be great to just decide, "we're settled up" so that every thing went back to zero and the non-simplified version of debts could restart from scratch,
4 votesThis is an interesting idea, and one I could see for people who want to quickly settle up and call it a day. I’ll bring it up with my co workers and see if it’s something we can fit on our schedule.

Detailed summary of debts
it would be very handy to have, next to the existing summary of how much someone owes to someone else, an overview of how much someone owes to someone else for which reason.
For example: Bart owes in total € 200 to Tom, of which € 40 for energy bill 1/01/2012; € 60 beers bill of 2/01/2012 and € 120 rent of october.12 votesThis does sound useful!
