Add the ability to add guests
When splitting bills, Splitwise works great for people that are already added into the app / website. However, for temporary guests, it becomes more of a hassle as after splitting the bill out since there's no room to add them.
The only solution now is to list it into comments.
There should be an option to add a 'Guest' slot, maybe by hitting a + button that allows you to add AND name another person that's not on Splitwise. From there, you'd be able to split the bill accordingly.
47 votesInteresting thought! Normally we’d just encourage you to add this new person as a friend or group member on Splitwise (hooray, new friends!), but I’ll pass on your suggestion at our next team meeting.

add increase/decrease buttons next to shares number fields
Every time I use this feature I think about how nice it would be to not touch the keyboard while increasing shares ;)
3 votesThanks for the feedback! I can see how this’d be useful for shares in particular, where everyone’s number is usually pretty small :) I’ll pass on the suggestion!

Email Facility to Non Members
Email Facility to Non Members
3 votesThanks for the suggestion! I’m not sure if we’re currently planning any features to directly email someone who’s not on Splitwise, but we do have a few options to export expenses in a spreadsheet or printable summary, which you can then email to a person yourself. Right now, “export as spreadsheet” and “view printable summary” are only available on our website, but we’re working on bringing those features to our mobile apps, too. Hope that helps!

Graphic development
Develop new icons for each expense! Like coffee, rent, laundry...!!
10 votesThanks for the suggestion! We do have icons/categories for a lot of different kinds of bills, like rent and groceries, and we hope to add more over time.

connect t mobile family plan directly to splitwise
we are 8 people sharing a family plan of t mobile, and some of us have bought devices from t mobile, some make international calls, so the charges are different for everyone and splitting them every month is a real pain
4 votesInteresting idea! Thanks for submitting.

Add email confirmation
After lots of confusion over why Splitwise was not working, and why my online account did not match my phone, I realized my email account in Splitwise on my phone had a typo, so all funds sent to me was going nowhere. You should require email confirmation on the mobile app! Security concern!! It should also be possible to have multiple emails associated, i.e. One account email and another associated with a paypal account.
10 votesVery sorry for the trouble!! I know in the past we’ve tried to keep registration as lightweight as possible, since many people use Splitwise very casually, but I can imagine how confusing it’d be to have payments sent to a wrong address. I’ll pass on your suggestion at our next planning meeting.

Option to show only the transactions that involve me
This feature to hide transactions which do not involve me is already present in the web. So it would be great if the same is present in mobile.
It is particularly useful if you have a large group.
13 votesHey Manu – thanks for posting this in our forum! This would definitely be a nice improvement on our mobile apps, especially for large groups :) Hopefully it’s something we can work on next year!

Group Permissions
i know that you already thought about it for sure
but my idea at least the remind button
other users can remind others for spamming only
note that i created the group and A,B is membersA remind B thats he own me
and he keeps doing that foreverif there is permissions at least on that point it will be great
3 votesThanks for the suggestion. Just to clarify, my understanding is you want permissions specifically to stop a friend from sending you reminders?

Give us Option to Add Tentative figures without syncing
Kudos to the Website Design accessibility and the whole idea for creating this kind of a website.
One suggestion :
Give us an option to add tentative figures or figures which are too small to be added directly but can be posted after accumulating together
For eg to explain with a hypothetical situation;
Salt - Rs 20 can be added and kept aside without syncing.( Keep in Reserve )
Once I buy Sugar Rs 60 etc
I can accumulate together and make entry as
Salt & Sugar - 80
etc2 votesThanks for your kind words about Splitwise and for providing your suggestion.
We’ve thought about this a bit, but we worry that it’ll get confusing and add extra work — people might forget they added a ‘pending’ bill, never add it to their ‘real’ ledger, or their friend will add it in the meanwhile and there will be duplicates.
May I ask why you wouldn’t just want to add “Salt 20 Rs” to Splitwise right away? It’s seems that it’d be as much work as adding the ‘pending’ expense, and then going back later to ‘really’ add it. Is it about not wanting to ‘spam’ friends with emails about expenses added?
Thanks!

Simplifying removal of users from a group
Its a pain to delete all the expenses of a user before removing him. I suggest that there should be a dialogue box which pops up asking the user who should the debt be passed on to in the group instead of showing an error saying that you cant remove that person. So for example if A is leaving the group where B and C owe him 105 and 110 respectively. Then if D is removing A, he/she should pay A 215 and then the app should show that B owes A 105, and C owes A 110. Doing this…
6 votesI think I see your use case. I’m not sure if we’d implement it the way you suggest, but basically the issue is with groups that are very similar but changing slightly from week to week. I recommend increasing the size of the group and then unchecking people who are not there from the “split equally dialog” rather than removing them from the group. But I’ll leave the suggestion open as it’s an interesting point.

allow gift payments that don't need to be paid back
In my household, I pay the rent and then my flatmates reimburse me. This works beautifully, normally.
Lately, flatmate #2 has been paying a little extra to cover flatmate #1's share. The way Splitwise is currently functioning, it sees the overage as a debt to be repaid.
But it isn't. Flatmate #2 is giving Flatmate #1 the gift of paying off his debt. It is a gift with no expectation of repayment.
I cannot figure out how to log this in Splitwise. It isn't a "reimbursement". I cannot log it as a simple "settle up". I don't know what to…
25 votesHmm…interesting! I’ll pass on this feedback – I haven’t heard much about people adding transactions on Splitwise that aren’t actually IOUs or payments.
For now, your best bet is probably to edit your rent expense, so that each flatmate’s share reflects the actual amount they’ve been paying (including the gift). So if everyone pays $500/mo normally, and flatmate #1 is paying an extra $100 on flatmate #2’s behalf, you could edit the bill to say that flatmate #1’s share is $600 and flatmate #2’s share is $400. Then, when each person pays their adjusted share, there should be no remaining debt between the two of them. Hope that helps for the time being!

Improve the way Splitwise handles multi-currency
Recent trip to Vietnam with four people and three currencies While we were able to capture all the payments in VND, SGD and USD, once it came to settling it all turned bad. The interface is very clearly made for single currency and thus has many instances where only one field is provided (e.g. in the dashboard, the group overview, etc.). Occasionally there's grey text underneath showing some of the other currencies, but when it came to settling up it became an unholy mess very quickly. The problem was compounded by some expenses being recorded on the group and others…
21 votesHey Tom, sorry for all the trouble! We definitely want to keep improving multi-currency support – Splitwise can handle the math correctly, but the interface doesn’t show all that information very well.
Hopefully we’ll have time to improve this on iOS and Android next year, but it might take us a little while – multiple currencies are only used by a few % of our users, and as a very small company (2 engineers) we’re a bit swamped with feature requests. Still, it’s something I really want to work on, especially since it’s something that Splitwise could be really helpful for. In the meantime, my apologies for the inconvenience!

Allow setting a limit to how much someone can owe you and if it goes above it, keep sending reminders after regular interval.
Lets say, a friend owes me monthly $50. If after couple of months he has still not paid up I should be able to set an upper limit to how much someone can owe me. If the limit is crossed, Splitwise should keep sending reminders after regular interval to my friend.
11 votesHey Smaran, thanks for the suggestion! We’ve been thinking about ways to improve our reminders, and I could see how this could be very useful, so I’ll pass on the idea at our next design meeting.

enable mass editing of expenses
I have a bunch of expenses that I want to put in a group but I can't find a way to do it other than one at a time. There should be a way to edit several fields on multiple expenses at once. I see there's a suggestion called "Bulk Edit Expense" but it hasn't been commented on since 2012.
By the way, I just clicked to sign in with Google and got this security message from Chrome: You attempted to reach feedback.splitwise.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.uservoice.com. This may be caused by a…
93 votesUpdating this as it’s been a while. We’ve discussed this a few times and can see how it would be useful in a few cases (such as mass-moving expenses between groups – if you or anyone else needs help with that, feel free to send us a support email). We’ll keep it open for now for further voting and comments.

build a feature that lets someone add an expense now but select a later date (or multiple dates) for it to "hit"
Just sent this to the "contact support" group....
I'd love a feature that allows me to add an expense immediately but choose a later date or dates at which it will be added to expense calculations. Some possible choices:
-simple "save until next month" option
-select the specific date that it will be included in group calculations
-spread the cost across the next 3, 6, or 12 months
-hold for low expense month: Splitwise knows average monthly cost and automatically drops expense into month with below-average expensesThanks! I use this tool for many groups, including managing a 7-person house.
6 votesThanks for the detailed suggestion! I can definitely see how this’d be useful, though we’d want to be careful and make sure the extra options don’t cause undue confusion. I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements to discuss :)

Make the 'final' amounts that group members owe each other far more obvious than the amount that you have 'lent' each group member.
As above.
Once all the group members have joined and the receipts have been added, the amount 'lent' by each group member to the individual payees is FAR MORE OBVIOUS than the final 'balance' that you owe. Why do you have to click or hover the cursor over your name on the right hand side to see this balance. It's not the first thing that your eye is drawn to.4 votesSorry for the trouble! Just trying to make sure I understand your feedback correctly – are you talking about the right-hand sidebar on the group screen, which lists each group member and their balance?
When looking at a group, we’ve generally found that people prefer to view the total balances of each group member, rather than the specific amount that each person owes you. I know that different people have different personal preferences, though, so sorry if that’s throwing you off!
I don’t think we’re likely to change which number is displayed there in the near future, but I’ll pass on your message and see if there are any tweaks we can think of to make this clearer. Again, apologies for the confusion!

Some Enhancement suggestions
Hi,
I am using splitwise for months now. it is very good tool to split the expenses.
I guess few more features would be even more useful for the daily users like me. Below are some of the features i can think of
We are using to split the expenses made for Apartments, trips etc. Though we can able to know How much we owe and owed, there is no option for us to find the total expenses made in that particular Trip or Particular group. it would be great, if you could add the feature of total expenses for…
2 votesThanks for the message! Here are a few quick responses:
1) Yep, we definitely want to do a better job of showing totals! Hopefully that’s something you’ll see in the near future.
2) Actually, you can already export to Excel from our website: just choose a group or friend, then click the settings button at the top of the right sidebar and choose “Export as spreadsheet”. We’re working on bringing this feature to our mobile apps, too.
3) If you click on an expense to view its details, then it should give you a history of all edits made to that expense – if the cost was changed, if people were added or removed, etc. You can also see a brief history of all changes by going to the “Recent activity” screen, which shows all recent changes in your account.
4) Other people have also asked for the ability to…

Additional factors in the rent calculator
Adding if the room has a strong, moderate or weak wifi signal.
Adding a fourth component in the closet category as "walk in closet" since you can have an awesome closet that is enormous and can step into, and then there is an actual walk in closet.
Adding parking as an optional component.
My main suggestion - Adding a compensatory component if there is one person who is finding the place, finding the roommates, etc. It is a lot of work and energy to find new roommates, handle the legal aspects of the lease ahead of time, provide the time…1 voteThanks for your feedback! These are good ideas for making the rent calc more comprehensive. I will bring them up next time we talk about enriching it. We haven’t updated them since release and are aware they need a little love :)
Cheers, Zoe

Expenditure summary
I love this application, thanks for saving a lot of time spending what I owe and what I get. I have a suggestion of a expenditure summary of a trip or a for that matter any other category in Excel tabular format or pdf format that ways I know what every one spent during whole trip or month or customs date for a particular group
5 votesHey Gururaj – thanks for the suggestion! We actually have a few export features like this on our website, which haven’t made it to our mobile app yet. If you log in to your account on Splitwise.com and navigate to a group, you should be able to view printable summaries for any month (by clicking the “view printable summary” link above each month’s expenses), or you can export an Excel spreadsheet of all expenses by clicking the settings icon at the top of the right sidebar, then choosing “Export as spreadsheet”. Hopefully some export features will make their way to our mobile apps in 2015!

0.00 expenses
I'm interested in using the app to split chores. So when a roommate does a group chore like taking out the trash or cleaning the kitchen, they can record it on the app. Other roommates can check the app and give credit where credit is due like saying thank you or returning the favor in the future.
This prevents roommate initiative from going unnoticed and helps align expectations. One of the most common issues arising from living with other people is different levels of expectations and initiative. One person might be disgusted with the kitchen while another doesn't mind at…
16 votesHey Brandon – thanks for the feedback! We’d definitely considering adding better support for chores in the future, though we probably wouldn’t do it via $0 expenses (both for design reasons and for technical reasons, believe it or not). For now, you could try using the whiteboard feature for groups (web-only unfortunately, at the top of the right sidebar), or you could add a $0.01 expense. (You can even assign the whole balance of the expense to yourself, so that it doesn’t affect anyone’s total balances.)
