  1. allow recipient to mark pending payments as complete

I have a payment from someone listed as pending and it says the funds have not been transferred because the person did not complete the payment on PayPal.

However, I did already receive the PayPal payment and withdrew the money into my bank.

I don't see an option to fix/update the "pending" to "complete".

I’ll pass on this suggestion at our next team meeting. I’m sorry the payment didn’t automatically get marked as complete – we should have received a notification from PayPal when the payment went through. If you send us an email at support@splitwise.com, I’d be happy to go in and manually mark the payment as complete for you.

  2. show a person still owes if their payment is pending

Person is shown as settled up, but I haven't received the payment yet and it's shown on "pending".

I’ll pass on this suggestion as well! It’s a bit tricky, since we want to avoid causing confusion in the opposite direction (i.e. I owe you $100, I send you $100, and then Splitwise still says I owe you $100), but there may be a way we could better indicate “pending” status.

  3. Color Coding of Paid column.

A nice to have would be:
The column that shows who paid could use a different color for each person who pays. For instance I have Zac, Kyle, and Myself (Erza) in my group, my color would be black. Kyle could be blue and Zac could purple. This would allow me to look at glance who paid more often. I do like the the orange and green column that shows how much was lent/borrowed. Icing on the cake would be having the ability to assign each group member a color.

I’ll pass on the suggestion! I know in the past we’ve considered additional things to indicate who paid – small user icons, for instance. (I believe we decided against that in order to keep the interface cleaner and less cluttered.) I’ll add this to our list of possible ideas and see what the rest of the team thinks.

  4. Removing the button to un-delete after un-deleting an expense

    Hi,

I un-deleted an expense yesterday but was a bit confused when I saw the button still appearing in the activity page. Maybe removing the button (I totally understand the logic for keeping the deletion activity in tact) would be great and not so confusing :)

Hey Estelito – that definitely makes sense! I’ll add this to our list of to-dos for the web app. (I believe our iPhone and Android apps already work this way, so hopefully we can catch up the web app soon.)

  5. Give users the ability to see future balances for recurring expenses.

In our group we have expenses like Rent, Internet & Netflix that are static in amount most of the year. We have expenses like this set as recurring.

When expenses are recurring there's not much room to quickly see an upcoming balance which is ultimately what my suggestion would provide.

  6. Friends name on iPhone Notification

Its a suggestion that the iPhone notification should display the friends name who adds/modifies any expense. For now the notification shows just the amount and title of the expense which is confusing sometimes when one has too many friends. it doesn't tells me who added the expense.

Push notifications can only have 200 characters, so it can be a little tricky to get names in there in addition to bill info. We are considering this, though.

As of last week, when you tap a push notification it’ll take you right to the expense in question (not just to the Home screen) which should help you be less confused.

  7. Assign the correct person when I click to send a reminder

There´s a link with people's name, then there's one button close to each name to "Send a reminder". As I clicked the button close to the person's name, I thought it was going to send to that person, but what happened is that I send the same reminder to the same person a few times, because I missed the dropdown to actually select the person. Makes sense?

  8. enable mass editing of expenses

I have a bunch of expenses that I want to put in a group but I can't find a way to do it other than one at a time. There should be a way to edit several fields on multiple expenses at once. I see there's a suggestion called "Bulk Edit Expense" but it hasn't been commented on since 2012.

By the way, I just clicked to sign in with Google and got this security message from Chrome: You attempted to reach feedback.splitwise.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.uservoice.com. This may be caused by a…

Updating this as it’s been a while. We’ve discussed this a few times and can see how it would be useful in a few cases (such as mass-moving expenses between groups – if you or anyone else needs help with that, feel free to send us a support email). We’ll keep it open for now for further voting and comments.

  9. Enable a toggle between simplify debts "on" and "off"

"Simplify debts" is by far the easiest way to get squared up, say, at the end of the month. However, it confuses the heck out of some of my friends who get confused by the idea of owing a whole bunch of money to one person to whom they might not owe anything directly (eg "Why do I own $100 to person A? She never lent me money" "well it's because you own person B money, and person B owes person A" ... you get the idea.

If you could quickly toggle between the simplified and unsimplified debts, it would…

Thanks for the suggestion, and sorry for the trouble! We definitely want to make “simplify debts” a bit clearer, though we’ve had trouble successfully doing that. (That’s actually one of the reasons it’s buried in the settings now – some people used to turn it on and off quite frequently, and then OTHER members of their groups would get confused about why their balances were changing.) I like the idea of a temporary toggle, though, to just “preview” what the group would look like the other way. I’ll pass on the feedback and see if we can add it to our list of future updates :)

  10. Chrome extension

Most people open famous web apps through extensions.
So it would be great if you build an extension for splitwise as this would really support browser users

  11. Name Diners and Itemize in Plates

It would make it convenient to be able to name diners in the Plates app. This well help identifying which plate belongs to the individual diner.

Another nice feature would be the ability to type in the items off of a receipt so when you send out the split check your friends see what they ordered and not just a line item dollar amount.

Thanks for the suggestions! You can actually already name diners in the Plates app, though it’s a bit hidden – just tap on a plate while you’re adding items, and then tap on the name displayed in the column on the left. You’ll be able to type in a name for that plate. It’s pretty basic, but I hope it helps!

I’ll pass on your suggestion about naming items – I know we left that out at first in order to keep Plates as slim and fast as possible, but I definitely see how it’d be useful for some people. For now, I’m sorry for any inconvenience!

  12. Add date range option to "Export as spreadsheet" function

Currently when I click the "Export as spreadsheet" link under Group Settings it gives me all of the transactions that have ever been recorded in the group. Since I use a group to track expenses with roommates, I like to export the data on a monthly basis, and it would be great if I didn't have to go back and delete all the old data from the beginning of the file each time.

Alternatively, the "view printable summary" already gives a nice monthly snapshot, so if there was a way to export that view to a spreadsheet, that would work…

Good suggestion! We’ve talked about adding a date range to both the export and the monthly summary – it’s never quite made it to the top of the to-do list, but hopefully it will sometime soon. In the meantime, I’m sorry for the delay!

  13. Viewing printable summary

Please add a feature to view the summary in a single list.
Currently if expenses are spread across different months, there are different summary links for each month. I couldn't find a way to view the full summary via a single link. This would be helpful if a gr

  14. Add a note feature

Need a note, a simple sticky on a calendar to remind myself and my friends of the upcoming bills. Currently I use my phone's calendar but I cannot share that with my roommates.
For example, as soon as I see the electric bill, I will note it on the due date, I don't pay these bills immediately but if any of my roommates feel its good to pay it themselves they can scratch the note and add a bill.

Interesting. We’ve talked about adding “comments” to groups, which sounds a bit like what you’re suggesting (minus the calendar). I’ll pass on your suggestion at our next meeting and see what the rest of the team thinks :)

  15. Add a tolerance level for transfers

We really don't care if someone is owed under $5. It would be nice if you could set a tolerance level, so that if someone is owed under that amount, it just shows as "Settled".

This feature was in Settle Up and made things much more clean!

Great idea! We’d love to help facilitate logins to Utility providers, but for security reasons, we plan to add some additional layers of security (optional PIN login, stronger password controls, and external auditing) before we provide anything that should be good enough for storing login data securely. For now, I would not recommend storing login data or account details in any of the data entry fields on Splitwise.

  17. can add additional feature of having graphic trends per individual per month

I would like to see graphical analysis of my expenses per group, all groups in selectable period (Date between/ Monthly)

    0 comments  ·  Web app  ·  Admin →

    Hi Abhinav,

You can see our current best analysis by category by month by going to: splitwise.com

    1. Either navigate the group you are interested in or All Expenses
    2. Click the Trends widget on the upper right, and then view full charts

Custom defined periods would have to be a pro feature – that is very expensive computationally to do for us at present. You can also export group level data to csv via the gear in the upper right → Export as spreadsheet to do your own analysis if you want custom ranges.

    I hope this helps!

  18. Better internationalization

Many languages uses "," for decimal divider and the SEK symbol "kr" is placed after the amount:
"1,5 kr" instead of "kr 1.5"

We’d definitely like to bring better internationalization to the website. Our iOS app should already use proper internationalization in most places, and I believe our Android app does the same (though I’m not 100% sure). Hopefully we’ll find time to improve this later this year!

  19. Mavericks/Safari push notifications

It would be great if you supported Safari push notifications in OS X Mavericks.

This would definitely be a cool addition at some point! It’s probably at least a little ways down the line (heck, we’re still working on bringing iOS/Android push notifications up to speed), but I’ll add it to our list of ideas for the future :)

  20. Add an option for a lump-sum Splitwise Pro payment

I like Splitwise a lot and have gotten a lot of use out of it, so I would like to subscribe to Splitwise Pro to support the site. However, I am uneasy about adding recurring, monthly expenses to my bank statement. Would it be possible to add a non-recurring subscription option? I would be perfectly fine with a resubscribe email getting sent in a (month/year) but I do not like automatic charges. Thank you!

We’re definitely considering this! We’re running a variety of tests right now to decide exactly how we’ll be offering Splitwise Pro (pay-what-you-want, fixed cost, etc).
