   If you click on “view full details” under the group balances on the website, you will get a more detailed list of how we think you should settle up with individual settle up buttons like you describe.

   We should probably consider showing more options after clicking the general settle up button on the group page.

3. Expense reminder

   I made an expense with a friend who is out of reach for a month. I have already added it to Splitwise but the share has not been decided. I want a reminder after 'd' days (when my friend is likely to be back) that the amount in the expense needs revision. Is this currently do-able?

   I can see why you would want a reminder in this case. This isn’t doable at the moment, though you could add a comment to the expense that you need to update it.

   We’re really loathe to add “do it later” features in general to the app because if you get into the habit of putting off entering data (which is the most annoying part of any app like this), you can wind up with a pile of unfinished expenses.

   We have a couple of potential features that might help with this, though, so I’m leaving this as under review.

4. to give a added feature of getting monthly expence made by each person after or before the settlement.

   this features helps us to track our monthly expenses individually. And also the group expenses spent monthly. That is if I add a bill the flow should go on as it is working now additionally there should be extra feature which keeps individual expenses which should be highlighted in our profile. And after settlements also it should get adjusted automatically then individual person can know how much he has spent for a month. For example :
   in a group of 3, all will be adding there bills but there is be no indication of individual expense, so by adding this feature he can know how much he has spent, and after settlement of the amount by other two, he can know the exact amount he has spent and should also be same to other two persons in the group.

5. Automatically Pull/Parse bill emails

   I would totally give you guys access to my email if you could grab PG&E statement emails and add those bill amounts automatically to Splitwise. Would be rad. They always have the same subject line ("Your PG&E Energy Statement is Ready to View") and the total is included in the email body.

   Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll pass it on at our next design meeting.

   For now, if you’d like to quickly view only the people you have balances with, just tap the “you owe” or “you get back” cell above the list of people (where it lists your total balance), and the screen will update to only show the relevant people. Hope that helps!

7. Ad Campaign: International Travel

   I suggest that Splitwise produce an advertising campaign which follows a group (or multiple groups) of friends as they set out on glorious adventures using Splitwise along the way to show how powerful of an app it is. This would be a very inexpensive and potentially powerful way to promote such a wonderful piece of technology. I know my friends and I have loved using Splitwise (what we call "the split") to help us keep track of our adventures and we would gladly volunteer to go on a crazy adventure or two to show the merits of this beautiful and wonderful app!

We’ve been working on marketing Splitwise, and we think trips are a great use case to show off, both for existing Splitwise users (many of whom only use Splitwise to manage their apartment) and for new users.    We definitely want to improve Plates + Splitwise integration over time! Right now, if you share a Plates bill with a friend, they can click on the link and then save their share as a Splitwise IOU. We haven’t had a chance to make updates to Plates in a while, but in the future, we hope to let you do that straight from the Plates app. Until then, apologies for the inconvenience!

9. Ability to capture when someone should replace an item

   There is not necessarily a specific cost but sometimes my roommates and I alternate the purchasing of a household item. For example if I buy dishwasher detergent this time my roommate buys it next time.

   I can see how this would be useful. We might find that this complicates our user interface too much to be worth adding, but I’ll keep this up here so we can see if there’s a lot of interest in this kind of feature.

10. Add regular payment tracking function for non-split expenses

    would be great if I would be able to add payments I make for myself as well. this would allow me to use SPLITWISE for all expenses, currently its 20% split, 80% expenses for myself. of course the split ones are more actionable but some information on the other expenses would greatly help...

    in the splitting screen there could be another field I PAY MYSELF.

    in the enter detail screen I would just need an optional field to be able to categorize my expenses.

    and in the OVERVIEW screen it should show how much was spend you paid XX,XX $" instead of showing "no balance" (since there is no splitting going on...)

    just to get the data into the system. one sunny day it would be great to simply get some simple statistics or export.

    nothing fancy, just some quick overview...
    3. no connection to my bank account, something I personally would never do.

    Hi there,

    Several people would love to use Splitwise for personal expenses, and we’re always interested to hear about this. So far, we’ve stayed away for just the reason you say – the ones owed to others are more actionable. So we are focusing on that for now.

    I’m aware that some users input expenses with just themselves, and list themselves as the “payer” as well as the only “ower.” The only place these expenses can be seen is on the “all expenses tab.” But yes, seeing charts and such would be nice in that case, and that’s hard to do right now.

    Great idea! So basically, send reminder would include more “why” details, perhaps a line by line summary of transactions?

    The idea of things at present is that the Splitwise interface itself is the “why” story – but we realize it could probably be better. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Updating this since it’s been a while. We’re still leaving this as a possible future improvement. This is not a very popular feature on our website. Figuring out the design for mobile apps continues to be a challenge. Sorry for the inconvenience!

13. add a 'by calendar' split method

    Our household recently had some of its occupants change, and so the payment of things like rent and bills has been complicated. We needed to figureout who was present for each bill, and for how much, and therefore how much they should pay as a result.

    Splitting 'by shares' and entering the number of days that people were around was a good solution here, but it's a pain to keep track of that manually.

    What I'd love is a calendar where people can be added or removed. Then when an electricity bill comes in (covering 90 days), the date-range for the bill can be entered, and we can split 'by calendar'. The bill is then split according to who was living in the household over that time, and by the proportion of time they were living there.

    I know this is an advanced feature, but it's also a super-amazing headache saver for anyone who has a household that uses splitwise and changes occupants.

    Thanks for the suggestion – I can see how that would be useful! Our travel calculator (http://splitwise.com/calculators/travel) does something like this, so it is a problem we’ve thought about before, though not exactly in this way. I’ll pass on your idea and add it to our list of possible future updates.

14. Custom categories and total overview

    I totally like the possibilities of the splitwise web app to show the trends and a monthly overview of the group's total. It would be really awesome if you could also add this overview to the iPhone app. I would also like the ability to split the bill unevenly like it is done in the web app.

    Since you doesn't want to enable custom categories I want to request some categories because I have a lot of expenses that doesn't fit in the given categories e.g. party, medicine & health, computer, sport, clothes.

    Keep up the good work, this app is very handy for me and my girlfriend to split the bills for our daily shoppings.

16. Improved Debt Simplification with more clarity

    Debt Simplification in its current form is quite limited. Even when I initiate the Debt Simplification on my end, I am not able to quite figure out how the debt got simplified. This is because whenever a debt simplification is made, multiple entries are added and it is difficult to correlate them.

    It would be great if debt simplification was shown as a single entry for an individual debt simplification operation so that everyone involved is able to identify how the debts have been shuffled. This can be made clearer by showing a diagram with names or any other graphical method(Bill monk used to have a diagram for their "Debt Shuffle" feature). Individual users who are not part of the entire diagram(shuffle) could be shown a subset of the diagram that they are involved in.

    I checked if a similar idea has been posted and I see that privacy of user names is a concern. But this will not be the case thanks to Rule number 2 followed in Dept Simplification "No one owes a person that they didn’t owe before". And as long as a person is only shown a subset that is applicable to them, it should work fine!

    I do hope this idea is feasible! :)

    We’d definitely like to improve clarity on debt simplification. In most situations, it’s impossible to show the full details of a debt simplification without compromising privacy, but we may be able to show only the parts of a simplification that directly involve you. (You can sort of do this already by going to the “All expenses” tab and viewing all the individual transactions involved in a debt simplification.)

17. Currency settings should affect the calculators as well

    Just a minor probably cosmetic issue. I saw that button "Set all expenses to <currency selected>"

    I was kinda bummed as I thought if I clicked that button, the calculators will also follow the setting but it does not :(

    Sorry for the trouble! You’re totally right – right now the calculators always use $. I’ll add this to our list of to-dos, and we’ll try to fix it to show the correct currency symbol soon :)

18. Ability to use a calculator when entering bill

    When entering a bill, it would be handy if there's a quick plus button there so that I can add multiple items fast and easy.

    Currently there's an empty button on the number pad that shows up which I think could very well be used for simple plus/minus calculations.

    We just added a very basic calculator function to our web app, so you can now use basic mathematical operations when entering a cost (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). We hope to add similar features to our mobile apps at some point in the future!

    I know this could increase the complexity of the UI, but for me unequally split each item of the itemized bill would be a great, great feature that i could use practically in each bill.

    We’re not currently planning any significant changes to the itemized bill form, though I do see how this could be useful. I’ll pass on the suggestion, and see if we want to add it to our list of future improvements.

20. Online gateway support for settling dues

    If you could use square case service or something similar to settle dues, it would be great, people could pay/settle dues right from your website or app - no need to step outside. Paypall is not for everyone

    We’d definitely like to continue adding more payment options, including Square Cash. Our iPhone app now supports Venmo, which we hope to bring to web and Android as well in the near future, and we may start working on another gateway after that. Until then, our apologies for the inconvenience!
