Sorry for the trouble! I can see how this would be useful – maybe we could add it as an optional setting? I don’t think we’d want to do it automatically, as there are some cases where it doesn’t really apply (e.g. when a new person moves into an existing apartment after a few months). Regardless, I’ll pass on the idea. Thanks!

identifying the member who owes the most in a group
In group with lots of members it is difficult to find out who owes/is owed the most. It would make it easier for that member to pay large expenses and even up with the rest of the group.
1 voteI’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, your best bet is just to open your group’s page and scan the list of balances in the right column.

Split Payment in Groups
When we press Settle Up, it shows paid in personal expenses and enters an appropriate transaction in other groups common to both. But this leads to confusion. I suggest that when you press settle up there should be an option to split the paid amount among groups as you wish. For example : - Say A owes B $400 (personally) and $600 in a group. Now A wants to pay $500 to B but $200 personally and $300 in the group. As of now it will show a single transaction in personal (& nothing in group - Though there is…
4 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, it’s always possible to enter two separate payments, one from the group screen and one from the friend screen – that should let you allocate your payment however you’d like.

Adding EdenRed/Sodexo coupons in the website.
Dear Team,
Please consider adding EdenRed/Sodexo coupons column along with money as many people in India get EdenRed/Sodexo coupons as a part of their salary.
Would love to see a reply for my suggestion4 votesHi there,
Just to clarify, is the suggestion adding them as a “currency” or as a payment method (ala PayPal)? Are they denominated in points, or in INR, or some other currency?
Cheers,

Make some modifications on the categories
In the transportation category you have both the car subcategory and the Gas/fuel subcategory. I think the car subcategory should be renamed to tolls or road tolls. Because in a car trip those two are the ones that usually matter.
Also in the Food and drink category the dinning out subcategory should be renamed to eating out because it is more generic. Or more interestingly adding a subcategory for each of the meals (Lunching out, breakfast out, snacks out) which would allow for a visual accounting of how much money is spent on each of the meals.
10 votesThanks for the suggestions! Next time we do a review/update of our categories, I’ll make sure we consider these. In the meantime, apologies for any inconvenience!

Make it easy to by from a group
This can be done by adding a expense paid by multiple people, each person paid for their own share and split by (the person buying). I have previously done this using negative values, but it never seemed to really be supported.
A quick fix would be to add the "each person paid for their own share" to mobile (iPhone, dono if the Android version has it).
3 votesMakes sense! I’ve actually started work on a feature like this, but I’m not sure exactly when it will be released. (Group buy/reimbursement transactions are very rare in general, so a few other things have taken priority.) Hopefully soon, though!

Add a message of the week / day / month header
The message header would be located at the top of all the bills OR pages, allowing for everyone to see the message at all times. When creating a message, it'll work similarly to the bills where you can set the predetermined time you want it to show. The other option here is to just have one box permanently stay up and have it edited as needed.
It could work similarly to the comments section where every time someone posted, it would post in a new box with their name attached to it. Or, it could just be a box where…
4 votesWe’d definitely like to add better comments that aren’t attached to expenses, especially for groups. Right now, there’s a rather hidden feature on our website called the “Whiteboard” (check the buttons at the top of the right sidebar), which is a little text box that any group member can edit. Maybe that can help you out for now while we work on better improvements!

Add the ability to add guests
When splitting bills, Splitwise works great for people that are already added into the app / website. However, for temporary guests, it becomes more of a hassle as after splitting the bill out since there's no room to add them.
The only solution now is to list it into comments.
There should be an option to add a 'Guest' slot, maybe by hitting a + button that allows you to add AND name another person that's not on Splitwise. From there, you'd be able to split the bill accordingly.
47 votesInteresting thought! Normally we’d just encourage you to add this new person as a friend or group member on Splitwise (hooray, new friends!), but I’ll pass on your suggestion at our next team meeting.

Don't suggest individuals to pay back. Treat the group as the important entity.
Feature request.
An option to treat the group as an entity such that instead of being told I owe person x report back that I owe the group (or the group owes me)I don't need to see suggestions of who I pay back, because I will be paying to the group next time I pay for something.
1 voteI’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, you should be able to do this by just ignoring the suggested repayments, and only paying attention to your total group balance. Apologies for the trouble!

Mac App
It would be great if there was a mac app version - it could integrate with the notification centre for transfers and thing.
40 votesI’d love to do this eventually, but for now we’re too small a team – we’ve already got our hands full with web, iPhone, and Android. Maybe in the future, though!

Maximum value of number is not big enough
Hello. When adding a bill, maximum value of input number is not big enough. If I enter a number greater than max value of 4byte signed integer, it is bound to this value. I know this value is okay for ordinary expense in USD but sometimes it's small for special case like buying a new house, especially in KRW(1 usd = 10xx krw). I would appreciate if you check it out. Thank you.
7 votesSorry for the trouble! I’ll pass on the suggestion, but it may be a while before we fix this – accepting expenses that cost more than 8 digits would require us to make some database changes. In the meantime, apologies for the inconvenience!

Let me link to my profile for people to add ME
I want to share my profile on facebook with a bunch of my friends so that they can add me and I don't have to collect email addresses. Or just have my facebook/google friends be on my friends list by default, then if they make an account we're already friends and they can see their balance.
Also, what good does linking my google or facebook do?
1 voteIt certainly makes sense to have a shareable profile link – in fact, I’m pretty sure that’s on our to-do list already (we just haven’t gotten to it yet). I’ll pass on the “default friends list” suggestion as well.
Right now, connecting with Google lets you access your Google contacts straight from Splitwise, so that when you start typing in a name, we can autocomplete that person’s email address. (Connecting with Facebook just lets you log in; we don’t currently request any access to your list of Facebook friends.)

Add Washington DC Renters Insurance Recommendation
Add Washington DC Renters Insurance Recommendation
10 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, your best bet is probably to check our statistics for Maryland or Virginia – numbers for the DC area may be slightly different, but that’s still a good estimate to work from.

Add multiple currency support for charts
When displaying charts in a group with expenses in multiple currencies, the sums are stated unconverted in the default currency, which makes the chart useless. If currency conversion (which would be very cool!) is not on your current roadmap, you could at least display a chart for each currency.
21 votesSorry for the trouble! Not many people use 2+ currencies, which is why this has gone neglected until now, but we’d definitely like to improve it. We’ll probably start by simply showing one currency on the charts screen (and ignoring expenses in other currencies), then later move on to either showing multiple charts or doing actual currency conversion. Until then, apologies for the inconvenience!

itemised friend balance, with cumulative balance
When I click on a friend, I see total balances for the group that that friend is in, as well other expenses.
Would it be possible to get an itemised list for all entries involving that friend regardless of which group the expense occurred in, but excluding any group entries that don't involve that friend?
On such an itemised list, I would also like to see a column representing cumulative balance with that friend, so I can look back along that column to see when the balance with that friend was last zero.
7 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! Unfortunately, there are some factors that make this tricky – for instance, for groups that use the “Simplify debts” setting, breaking down someone’s balance on an expense-by-expense basis isn’t very straightforward. (With “simplify debts” on, it’s possible to owe someone even if you’ve never shared an expense together!) Still, we’d definitely like to get better at explaining your total balance with a person, and this could help with that :)

Relationships for debt calculation
So I have a few groups with some friends, and not all of them know each other. Occasionally, when I add a combined bill, Splitwise simplifies debts in a way that person A ends up owing person B, who don't really know each other. It ends up being an awkward situation which I resolve by taking the money from A and giving it to B.
It would be cool if Splitwise showed me a graph with nodes for myself and every person I've ever shared a bill with (or scoped within a group for simplicity), and then let me add…
15 votesHey Sameer – are you talking about the “Simplify debts” feature for groups? In general, we’ve assumed that everyone in a group knows each other, as groups are usually used for apartments and group trips and things like that. Could you give me more details on the specific case where this problem is happening for you? It’d be good to have more background and make sure we understand where you’re coming from.
On the other hand, if you’re talking about the “Simplify debts” feature that works outside of groups, then our algorithm should take this into account already, as it only moves around debt between people who already have outstanding balances with each other.

Pooling the money
Lets say an future event/trip is planned where by several group members pool in the money with only one or two of the group over a period of time. And at the event or trip these one or two people spend the money on behalf of others. So this would ideally be a transfer at the beggining and then the actual expense.
59 votesI’ll pass on the suggestion! For now, you might try creating a group with an extra member named “Pool” – you could have everyone pay that fake member some money to start, and then that fake member could pay for expenses that come out of the group pool. Hope that helps!

Make Plates for Android.
The iOS app is gorgeous and I'm jealous.
350 votesThanks Jesse, couldn’t agree more. In fact, I’m up-voting this too :) As the Splitwise team’s big Android fan, I keep having to ask my friends to go download Plates so we can use it. Plates for Android is definitely something we want to do, but we’re juggling a ton of priorities on the core app on both iPhone and Android right now. But for sure it’s on our minds, and thanks for submitting the suggestion!

You can only collapse an expanded expense by clicking exactly horizontal with the expense total
I just noticed that the only area listening for a click to collapse an expanded expenses is a thin strip exactly parallel with with amount total of the expense. It would be nice if clicking anywhere in the expanded expense header collapsed the expense.
1 voteThanks Anon,
Very interesting suggestion! That is by design, but I’m curious to see if other people agree. Personally, I like they way it works but I’ll leave this under review to think about as we are tweaking design.
Cheers,

Just used PayPal integration to settle funds - that was helpful! Would be great to add a comment so it is clear what the payment is for
Just used PayPal integration to settle funds - that was helpful! Would be great to add a comment so it is clear what the payment is for.
2 votesHi Tushar,
Thanks for the suggestion. Just so you know, you can add a comment on the Splitwise side, either before you submit the payment or after in the Notes/Comments field, which will generate an email by default (depending on user preferences). Just won’t be in the PayPal receipt, which is itself a good idea but we have somewhat less control over that.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Jon
