Group cloning feature
I would really help if you could add a clone group feature. I have to maintain expenses on a monthly basis between the same group of people. Creating the same group every time is a pain. Also it would reduce the effort in creating new modified groups.
Like I cloned an existing group and then in the confirmation step, make some modifications if required and then click on a button like create group.
4 votesI’ll bring this up at our next design meeting. We do have a feature on the web to export a PDF of the balance for a group for the month. This might help solve this for you for now.

Thanks for your feedback. Can you please give a little more context about when you’d use this feature? Thanks.

Add subscription feeds to the calendar function
Add support for calendar subscriptions (i.e., .ics .gcal .html) to the calendar function for groups. Simply having a calendar item that said "Pay <name> for <bill name>" or "<bill name> due" would be great. I would find this especially handy for recurring bills (e.g., utilities, rent, groceries).
1 voteI can see how this would be useful. I’m not sure if this is something we’ll take a look at soon, but I’ll bring it up next time we look at recurring bills.

Add "QFC" for auto-categorization for "Groceries."
QFC is owned by Kroger and is a 24-hour grocery store (mostly?) in the Northwest United States.
Adding them to the database will make data entry just a bit easier.
2 votesThanks for the suggestion! We’ll definitely add this to our database.

Enhancement to reminders
Hi,
I would like to see some improvements around the reminders functionality.
The very first time I created an expense account in Splitwise I had no idea that it sends out monthly reminders. I couldn't find any note for such emails that will be sent out (when I created the expenses group). The monthly reminder thing came as a good surprise and is great, but I think it will be nice if we have some more control over scheduling reminders.
For example some friends in a group require frequent followups as compared to others.
So within the group created, I…16 votesThanks for the suggestions! More granular control and making reminders smarter is something we are thinking about improving over time.
For now, we automatically send out a monthly summary email each month that includes all of a person’s balances. You can also manually send a balance reminder by going to your friend’s page and choosing the “Send reminder” option (located under the settings menu on our website, and under the “More” menu on our mobile apps).

Thanks for your suggestion! We’re always adding support for different languages and formats to make Splitwise more accessible to people across the globe. This sounds like something we might do in the future.

Automatic invite to app
Why can't I send an automatic text to add people to the app? I have to search their phone number and it's annoying! It doesn't show me who is already using the app, I know that a number of my friends are already using it..
3 votesThat totally makes sense. Currently, you can invite people using their phone number or email ID, and if they’re already on Splitwise, we do the right thing and link that invite to their existing account. We could look at your address book contacts and probably figure out who is already using Splitwise, so that you are able to add expenses with them directly by using their name.
I’ll be sure to bring this up with the team the next we’re working on our invite/friends logic. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ability to create tags for certain expenses, e.g "Moving costs", "Pets", "Reimbursable", "Sunday trip" when between two people especially
30 votesWhile we aren’t actively planning to implement tags currently, there are some things that you could essentially use as tags: we have a category for every expense such as transportation – bus, taxi or utilities – gas, power.
You can also create separate group if you want to have expenses for lets say a trip, an apartment or a club to be separate from regular expenses.

Make provision for adding a digital version of the bill at the time of payment of the bill directly from the POS
Every time we add bills and expenses, they are generally not for one or two items but a whole lot of things. Like when you go shopping, or a fun weekend, or even groceries. We have to calculate the whole bill manually and then add them bill-by-bill or item-by-item.
Rather than having to keep all the bills or depending on our short-term memory we could just ask the cashier at the POS to add it to our account so that we would get a digital bill. Then we could split each item easily. Imagine recalling the tab at a bar…
4 votesThanks for the suggestion! This would definitely be super-useful – we’ve thought about it before, though it’s not actually on our road map yet. Hopefully it’s something we can work on a bit further down the line. In the meantime, apologies for the inconvenience!

Put some padding at the bottom of the main view
it's too hard to expand/unexpand expenses when they are all the way at the bottom, because your window get scrolled up if you collapse them. it's just confusing, try it and you'll see
2 votesI just checked and the view does scroll up a bit when you click ‘Show more’ in the ‘All expenses’ view on the website. I’ve reported this to the team, and they’ll definitely add this to their bug list. Is this what you were referring to?

the left pane lists like "friends" and "groups" should be collapsible
The left pane lists like "Friends" and "Groups" can be a long one. I suggest you allow them to be collapsible (by clicking on the list name or something similar) and allow that state to be saved for convenience and a cleaner appearance for users with long lists (like me).
P.S. Splitwise is great. Please keep it up!2 votesWe hear you. Friends and groups in the app are slightly unwieldy and difficult to access, and we are planning a redesign of the Android app to address those issues.

add currency converter and show all the bills in. Single currency, also plan to have money transfers
Luv the app! Try to add currency converter and show all the bills in. Single currency, also plan to have money transfers, either square cash or your own payment gateways.
3 votesThanks for the suggestion! I’m not completely sure what you mean by ‘Show all bills in single currency’, but I think you’re looking for a way to automatically convert all expenses to one currency? Unfortunately, there is no straightforward way to convert currencies automatically, and there are a lot of complications with that, so we’ve chosen not to tackle that problem. Sorry about that.
There is a currency converter available on the web, but that is a Splitwise Pro feature. You can get Splitwise Pro by visiting: https://secure.splitwise.com/pro/subscribe
As far as money transfers go, we do support 2 methods: Paypal and Venmo, although these are currently supported in the U.S. only. We’re always looking out to integrate more payment options.

create a simple printable summary
I see the detailed summary and the simple group balances view. I wish there were a printable summary of group balances that I could include in an email so that I can explain how much people will pay in an email without taking a screenshot.
1 voteThanks for the suggestion! Yeah, I can see how it would be useful to have something to download and share, especially if not everyone is actually logging in to Splitwise. I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements.

make it easier to explain splitwise to new users
I have introduced several groups to splitwise. Each time, I have to write an email explaining that people should enter their expenses, split them accordingly, wait until everyone has entered their expenses, and expect to pay only 1-2 people. Each time, someone gets it wrong, especially the final thing. I wish there were a "tell your friends its time to settle up" button with a summary of what to do and who to pay.
1 voteWe’d definitely like to improve the way we explain Splitwise to new users, especially new users who are invited by other people – right now, we just sort of throw them in without much explanation. Hopefully in the future we can add a better welcome that gives a good overview of how everything works.

Interesting idea! I’m not immediately sure how feasible this is (i.e. I don’t know how easy it would be to actually fetch all the bill data given a barcode), but I’ll pass on the suggestion.

Adding new people to groups automatically splits future bills that were set up as between all of the group
I've had a group set up (an apartments) with recurring bills, now one of my flatmates gf has moved in and is paying the bills, but I'm having to adjust each recurring bill to include her. It would be great if when you set up a bill to split with the entire group it would update when new people were added (or removed)
3 votesThanks for the suggestion! Our recurring bill system is pretty simple, so this isn’t possible at the moment. We are planning to review it at some point, so this is something we’ll look at then.

Support non-US date formats
Hi,
Can I suggest you add support for non-USA date formats. Only the USA uses MM/DD/YYYY (^1), so it would be nice to be able to choose to show dates as YYYY-MM-DD and DD-MM-YYYY as well. Ditto for the first day of the week being Sunday in the calendar: the international standards have Monday as the first day of the week.
Thanks,
Pete8 votesThis seems like something we might do int he future.

Email notification for settlement
Hello Team,
First of all I would like to thank for developing this wonderful app. I am using this app since 2012. I would like to give you a suggestion. While sending an email reminder to person in grp, and when I am not involved in settlement then in that email, person who has to pay should be "To" and person who has to receive can be in "CC". So that both person will have end-to-end communication.
Right now only person who is sending reminder is in CC and perosn who has to pay is in To. So include the…

will make sure this gets brought up next time we talk about improvements to reminders.
