Toggle open and close Groups and Friendds
Make the side bar max height for that of the viewport height. Make the Groups and Friends sections toggleable close / open and scroll bars within.
Prioritize payments and do calculations based on them. Say an old payment exists in my dashboard and i don't wanna delete or settle it but just ignore about it when seeing my total.
Make dashboard items selectable so that i can calculate or get a total based on the selection items from my dashboard.
Same scenario mentioned above with selection of friends and groups from side bar or on a new page would be…
1 voteThanks for the suggestions – I’ll pass them on! We haven’t done any major work on our web app for a while, so I imagine we might be redesigning some things later this year.

Pick a date using calendar layout (i.e. the layout in calendar apps), replacing the date/month/year scroll
It will be easier to pick a date using calendar layout, as sometimes if we use date scroll, we may miss the date/month/year and need to scroll it again.

Button for multiple zero (00 or 000)
Some currencies are usually in thousand (e.g. 54000, 3000, 455000). It will be more effective to use button for multiple zero instead of triple touch the single zero button.
4 votesThanks for the suggestion – I’ll pass it on! I can see how this would be very useful for some currencies.

Previous feature for iOS was better
Previously it showed curved left to right arrow sign when I owe someone and right to left arrow sign when someone owes me while adding some bill. That was better.
1 voteSo sorry for the trouble! I’ll pass on your feedback to the team – I know we definitely plan to keep making tweaks and improvements to the add bill form, as well as the rest of the new app.

Allow searching of categories
Would be helpful to have the option of searching categories from the list when adding a new expense.
20 votesThanks for the suggestion – I can definitely see how this’d be useful for some people. Just out of curiosity, do you use our iPhone app, our Android app, or our website? I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements for the future.

simplify "add a bill" when you are always splitting with the same person
I only split bills with one person - so it's annoying to have to designate the payee every time I add an expense. I'd love to just be able to set my one payee and it auto fills or just eliminates that question when I have an expense.
2 votesThanks for the suggestion, and sorry for the trouble! I’ll pass this on and see if it’s something we want to add in the future. For now, we’re working on some design tweaks to make the “Add bill” form a little simpler, so hopefully you’ll see some of those improvements in the near future.

Automatically recalculate share, when new people getting added to the group.
Sometimes many expenses are added before everyone joins the group. The shares should auto recalculate if others join. For instance if I have a group of 5 people, and have a bill divided among all the group. Each person is charged $2. But later, we add in the remaining 5 people to the group, each person should automatically get recalculated to $1. Currently I have to manually add people in to the group expenses.
42 votesThanks for the suggestion! I can see how this would be useful, though we’d also want to make sure that we don’t accidentally add people to bills that they SHOULDN’T be involved in. (For example, a lot of people use Splitwise to keep track of apartments, group trips, etc where people may come and go at different points in time.) For now, apologies for the inconvenience!

Different FOREX for each member of group
When I travel I regularly use different currencies and so do my friends. Between every two pair of people there is a preferred currency of settlement and there is a set of currencies which they have access to. It would be great if people could choose which currencies they would like to be settled with in each transaction and people could define which currencies they are able to pay with (groupwise or at the transaction level). Splitwise would do its magic in when simplifying debt and would determine who owes who and what in which currency.
Splitwise could also offer…5 votesThanks for the suggestion! I know Splitwise isn’t perfect for people using large numbers of currencies all at once, and that’s something we want to keep improving over time. I’ll add this to our list of possible improvements for the future :)

Debt shuffling across groups
I really like Splitwise and I use it regularly to keep track of my shared transactions with other people. However I find it difficult to keep track of expenses across different groups. For instance, sometimes I would like to transfer debt from one group to the other, such that in the first group the debt is settled but in the second it will show up. This would be a great addition to my debt management routine.
To exemplify my request I will illustrate that with my father's recent visit. He came to visit me at home and I created a…16 votesThanks for the suggestion! There is a very basic version of this feature on our website – click on a specific person in the left sidebar, then click the settings icon at the top of the right sidebar and choose “Consolidate debts with this person”. All your groups will be settled up, and the remaining balance will be transferred to a single non-group bill.
We’ve also thought about a few other versions of this feature, but unfortunately it’s been really difficult to find a design that doesn’t confuse people. (Even the single-group “simplify debts” feature confuses a large percentage of people.) For now, we’ve decided to leave out any more complicated debt shuffling features, as the increase in confused/frustrated users seems to outweigh the benefits. Apologies for the trouble!

Bills paid by multiple people: "Each person paid an equal share"
When adding a bill which was paid by multiple people you should be able to select an option "Each person paid an equal share" in addition to the available option "Each person paid for their own share".
This is especially useful for couples having a shared bank account / credit card or for shared bills where everyone just chipped in the same amount of money (but one still wants to split the items afterwards).

Sorting categories
Hi,
It would be very useful to sort the categories by "most used".9 votesThanks for your suggestion Matteo. We are about to add many more words to the autocategorization library which will hopefully speed the process of categorizing a bill up a bit. We can consider this for our next round of work on that feature.

Add office expenses
It'd be nice if there was a built-in way to add the ability to split expenses among office employees, like lunch runs.
1 voteHey there – could you give me more details on what you mean? I’m probably misunderstanding your suggestion, but you should already be able to split expenses with co-workers on Splitwise: just add your co-workers as friends (or add them to a group), then add lunch runs and more just like you would any other item on Splitwise. Hope that helps!

[BUG] Tab order in group creation messy
Tab order in Group creation under /groups/new is wonky after you've added a bunch of extra people.
3 votesThanks for the heads-up – yep, I see what you mean. I’ll add this to our list of website bugs and hopefully we can fix it up soon :)

Additional factors in the rent calculator
Adding if the room has a strong, moderate or weak wifi signal.
Adding a fourth component in the closet category as "walk in closet" since you can have an awesome closet that is enormous and can step into, and then there is an actual walk in closet.
Adding parking as an optional component.
My main suggestion - Adding a compensatory component if there is one person who is finding the place, finding the roommates, etc. It is a lot of work and energy to find new roommates, handle the legal aspects of the lease ahead of time, provide the time…1 voteThanks for your feedback! These are good ideas for making the rent calc more comprehensive. I will bring them up next time we talk about enriching it. We haven’t updated them since release and are aware they need a little love :)

"Pay all" or auth queue when settling up
When I settled up I owed 3 different people. They all take Venmo. I had to go through "Settle Up" 3 times, each time hitting "Settle Up", then "Venmo" again, then authenticating w/ Venmo again - each time, it was just doing the top payment off the list.
Should either be a way to bulk-process, or, if not supported by their API, at least do a queue so it prompts me for the next person I owe.
2 votesThanks for the feedback Andy! I understand why this would be useful. You’re right — Venmo API wouldn’t support this — but I will bring the idea of queueing payments up on our side next time the team discusses ‘Settle Up’.
Cheers, Zoe

Ifttt integration for automated expense management
Using split wise in ifttt recipes like outputting to a google spreadsheet for example.
95 votesWanted to let you know that Splitwise is now supported on Zapier, a platform very similar to IFTTT: https://zapier.com/zapbook/splitwise/
Unfortunately we have been unable to make gains re: being added to the IFTTT platform. Thanks for your patience.

Give notif when my friend logs into SW
Give me a push notif if my friend is looking at the SW app so I can message them about any outstanding bills I need them to add to the ledger.
0 votesWe will probably implement messaging in the future, which would solve this. Not sure whether we’ll ever give users notifs when their friends log in — seems a little invasive?

"Who paid" column in Excel export
When you export your data to Excel there should be an additional column indicating who paid for each expense.
53 votesOur next update to the Excel feature is to bring it to mobile. Not sure when we’ll have the bandwidth to consider functionality on the whole. Sorry for any inconvenience! Zoe

Allow linkage to Chase Quickpay
Chase quickpay is a quick method of payment that is offered by Chase bank and something I use with a lot of people. Would be great to see it added to the payment options instead of just paypal and Venmo. Thanks! Loving Splitwise! Thanks for making life as a student easier between my friends and I - no more sending and forgetting Excel spreadsheets!
37 votesThanks for your suggestion and for your kind words about Splitwise.
We will considering adding Chase Quickpay integration if the idea gets popular amongst our user base, and if Chase begins providing a free API for Quickpay (that’s the tech thing we’d need to do the integration).
In the meanwhile, sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for using Splitwise!
